The wild animals that live among us

Ah, maybe. It does look rather clever. A decoy, maybe!

Killdeer are named for their call…so the way they kill deer would be by getting humans to do it.

I was going to say that I’d like to see something like this involving a Cybertruck, but thinking it through, no. The stupid thing could explode and harm the animal.

At Europe’s largest wildlife clinic, vets and carers treat injured birds, reptiles and mammals. The animals are often brought here by hikers or forest workers. More than 6,500 of them were treated at the center in one year.

That wasn’t a mouse at 4:54; it was a big ass rat.

It’s below freezing today and the bird bath was an ice block. We don’t typically have sustained freezes here, usually just over night or maybe a few days, so I’ve never bought a bird bath heater.

I took a pitcher of almost scalding water out and poured it in the bird bath. The ice floated out and left slightly warm water to slowly cool. We’ve had 6 different bird species stop by in the last 1.5 hours to have a drink. The little sparrows, wrens, and warblers seem to really like being able to perch on a drip irrigation tube and dip into drink.

I can’t get any good pictures through the solar screen :pensive: but I also don’t want the noise of the door opening to scare anyone away from what seems to be desperately needed water

That one might’ve been a chickadee (either Poecile atricapillus or P. carolinensis)

We used to have a nice backyard feeder, and I began calling the upside-down sparrows “bat hangers.” XD
