The wild animals that live among us

I like the wild ones (wood pigeons in the UK) but the city cousins are not welcome.

Baby elephants!!! :elephant: Just, FYI, this has some upsetting details about how animals are abused for our amusement…

Here is the place he visited…

I thought monstera plants were almost indestructible, but this bastard caterpillar stripped a medium-size potted plant (multiple 30cm leaves) in 24 hours. It’s about 12-15cm long. Apparently it turns into a Night Hawk Moth.

My wife and I visited that place in 2009. It really is wonderful. The people that run it are so respectful of the elephants, and tourist wishes take a very distant second place in the priorities of the business.

Seeing relaxed happy elephants up close, on the elephant’s terms, is life-changing.

His description is spot-on: “The cutest thing I’ve ever run away from.”

And Lek is amazing.

Boone’s been very agitated the last couple of nights around 9:00; running back and forth from the front window to the back of the house where I usually sit, whining, with hackles up. He loves people and other dogs, and is very interested in raccoons, but never with hackles up, so I was suspecting a fox or coyote, and yep; coyote. He came and got me last night and led me to the window and it was across the street. My neighbour across the street feeds the raccoons (why??!!) and I guess this has now attracted coyotes. I guess I’m going to have to report him to the city.

ETA; apparently another neighbour was coming home late, and saw what he thought was a stray dog (as I’ve done), and realised that not only was it a coyote, but there was a pack of 4-6 of them. This makes it a bit more serious.

Ugh… why do people do that… trash pandas are smart, they can take care of themselves. They don’t need feeding! This is the logical outcome of feeding your local trash pandas… Coyotes!

This guy killed his dog through over feeding; the dog was 100 lbs overweight and was probably suffering from pancreatitis when he finally had it put to sleep. His “love of animals” is very performative

That’s awful to hear… not from me you don’t, but others might appreciate it (a spoiler blur).

But yeah, call the city on this ass.
