Little frog is like “I will touch it whenever I want, no matter what you say."
@ObakeBakaNeko
These bird photos are truly stunning, as are the birds themselves and the flowers!
Thank you.
The birds are very beautiful, indeed. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to meet them when I carry my camera.
Babies!!!
I think they’re cardinals. There were two adults fluttering and perching nervously nearby while the HVAC guy checking the mini-split this morning.
MY Pitanga!
This may not be a stunning photo, but it was really fun to see a wild bun this morning. Wild Bun (to the tune of Duran Duran’s Wild Boys, because if it’s in my head, then it might as well be in yours also, if you are susceptible to this earworm). Wild Bun!
Wild buns always shiiiiiiine!
Big day for wildlife! I got a little startle when I went to go turn off the hose after watering. Ope!
I’m almost certain that this is a western rat snake, but I’m open to correction since I’m just comparing my pictures to a website, and I’m not going to bother this cutie to look at the underside. Hi!
Look at its beautiful green skin in the second picture!
Oooh, so pretty! I the rat snakes and king snakes, and I’m still waiting for my annual springtime encounters with the ones that stealthily reside in my yard.
The eyes make me think they’re due to shed their skin some time soon.
I’m stunned by your bun!
Some of my neighbors really can’t stand snakes in their yard - I’ve suggested sending them down the street (EtA: i.e., to our yard). I’d much rather have less of what the snakes eat.
We have a cat (in case they ever got inside the house), but I genuinely suspect he’d react the same way as Dodsworth:
“You know, one of these days I’m gonna have to buy me a mouse trap.”
Same here. No takers yet of my offer to move any non venomous snake
I tell every person I hire to help with yard projects that if they see a snake they should just step back, let me know, and leave it alone, and that this is a non-negotiable rule. Same for box turtles.
For several years we’ve heard a barred owl hooting somewhere close by, mostly during the night. Recently I heard it during the day when I took some recyclables out; then it happened again a minute or two later.
Today we saw it (or one of its chums) for the first time, sitting on a post in our neighbor’s back yard. They he flew away. They are large birds!
Here’s what they sound like:
So cute!
How can we let them go extinct!
Good rule.
When I moved to Australia, it was explained to me (in a deep Australian drawl): “The leading cause of snake bite is some dopey bastard trying to save the day.”
