Here too, although ours are mountain cottontails with smaller ears. I was told it might be related to bylaws against outdoor cats, but maybe there is some less local reason for the rabbit resurgence?

Ladybirds seem to be swarming, my Southend correspondent reported seeing thousands. And Joe Root was disturbed by a swarm while batting at Lord’s this evening.

Definitely, flying ants are normal this time of year, never seen ladybirds doing this before…

Most North American ladybugs don’t really swarm but the Asian ladybug Harmonia axyridis can be an invasive that does in incredible numbers. I’m guessing those were what the correspondent was talking about. Your pictures are the more usual seven-spot Coccinella septempunctata, so I bet it is just a place where there are a ton of aphids to attract them and feed lots of larvae…I’ve seen something like that beside a lake before.
