If a full half of the men in the arts have been abusive, just think how many other people must have been kept out by them, and how much amazing work we’ve lost because of it.
Bindel must mean decrease her popularity, right? I know sticking up for abusers actually is popular but this framing doesn’t make sense if she’s not pretending to be some kind of truth-telling martyr™.

I usually don’t get much bbq sauce on me while eating ribs, but that’s mostly because I’m leaning over the plate and growling. I make sure that new friends and family know not to try to reach for my plate or anything on it and that I’m not responsible for their fingers if they do!

Him pointing out the higher value of other homes in the area is pretty funny - so that means her family was less wealthy than the community she spent time in? So, not particularly privileged, relatively speaking? (Of course, as a Californian, the idea that someone was somehow privileged because their childhood house is currently worth a half million just doesn’t work for me. Around here a half million dollar house would be some burnt foundations on a small lot.)

You know that person at the office who thinks it’s ok to microwave tuna in an area that doesn’t have an extraction fan? I once - only once - did that with barbecue ribs. The look on people’s faces when their noses told them what was happening, but the knew they weren’t getting any… yikes.
