Cancer is their business model.
When you encounter a group like that you just know they are trying to destroy the environment.
It was probably just Covid.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
Some people just want to watch the world burn. Literally, apparently.
Will they take bets on when a victim Luigi‘s their CEO?
Yeah, just… but… WHY?!? Why do so many people seem to lack basic empathy? I don’t understand, I just don’t…
I wish I had an answer for that, I feel the same way. Right now it feels like humans are absolute monsters by default and anyone with empathy or compassion is a rare exception.
Okay, I’m just going to send this to everyone here that needs it today:
Some of these terrible stories certainly make it feel that way, but I can also tell you that being on the ground near the disaster are there was plenty of compassionate behavior on display. Lots of neighbors helping each other out and keeping each other safe in all kinds of ways. I certainly had many positive interactions with my neighbors over this ordeal as we cleared the road of debris, shared electrical power, etc.
By the way, that’s a good reminder for everyone: if possible try to get to know your neighbors, ideally before disaster strikes. It can be very helpful. If nothing else just having each other’s phone numbers so you can check in on your property while away is super useful.
Watching my whole field dissolve in an acid bath of private equity firms…
I miss our neighbors to the side. Very sweet older couple. Was hilariously cute when the gentleman, who has to be 70 something at the youngest, popped up at our door during the big Texas freeze making sure we had water.
The people who moved in afterwards won’t even say hello or wave. They just stare at me like I’m from a different planet
It’s good to know people are pulling together in southern CA in person. It helps mitigate some of the complete shits betting on the fires or gleefully tracking the celebrity homes burned or putting everyone at risk by downing the planes fighting the fires just for a few videos
@awfulhorrid thanks. I do need that today
I have no idea, but I think right now there are two exacerbating factors:
- A very strong push for the idea that caring about other people makes you a chump (as per neoliberalism and right-wing everything).
- Watching the entirely pointless destruction of so much we should value that makes buying into that cruel detachment seem like a self-defense mechanism.
Yeah, I can see both of those… still, I think some people are just assholes, because it benefits them, in this case, financially.
