What the fuck, Trevor. You have a whole routine about how your very existence was illegal under Apartheid, so you should absolutely know that segregation is not the answer.
In 2022, consumer advocates Which? complained that printer ink was “one of the most expensive liquids on Earth” with some cartridges costing more per ml than luxury champagne.
Trump/Vance have cut through half a century of consensual waffle about the US’s God-given destiny to lead the world to goodness and freedom. Whether the issue is peace and war, immigration or tariffs, they claim to seek the US’s self-interest and nothing else. Why should Americans fork out billions each year to defend a Europe that fails to defend itself? Why should they arm distant nations to fight their neighbours, or tip staggering amounts of aid into Africa’s basket cases?
clock the racist line highlighted… This colonizer can fuck right off.
Nato was a Hitler/Stalin thing. It was just another device to make the US pay for Europe’s defence. Not any more.
Fuck the Guardian too for platforming that shit. They’re better than most well-known outlets, but damn do they ever step right on the banana peel sometimes.
I listened to part of that, and I think arguing that he was supporting segregation is wrong. He wasn’t saying that at all. In fact, one of the guests specifically said that part of the problem was thinking that integration and segregation were the only options. I think a better word than integration for what they were talking about is assimilation. Because they’re talking about the problems, in hindsight, with forcing these groups to integrate with the white supremacist majority. There were legitimate problems with that. Busing, for example, had some negative consequences, something Kamala Harris has talked about.
Now, of course white supremacists are going to jump all over this and frame the discussion as something it wasn’t. Because that’s what they do. But the issue is more nuanced than just “integration was great!” And Noah absolutely never said he supported segregation during that discussion.
That interview is something. Gonna be hard to protect “my core aesthetic is ‘shuddup mom’ and I thought of it first” in court but glad to see these kinds of people waste their money putting good lawyers to work.
I think it’s difficult to see any positive spin on what he’s saying when his other argument was “Finland is successful because it’s not diverse” That’s an argument straight from the supremacist playbook.
Yeah, good points all… it’s so god damn hard to have a nuanced discussion on race in this country, because it’s seen as a very black or white (ahahhah) issue with no nuance. But assimilation is probably a better term to describe what happened in the aftermath of civil rights, with a strong sense of dismissal of lots of elements of Black culture, especially for Black working class culture, and that’s despite lots of that culture being very popular in the pop culture sphere.
Hmmmm… But how does he mean “Finnish people”? Does he just mean white Finns, who have ancestors going back centuries? Or does he mean people who are from Finland who adopted finnish culture totally?
Yeah, I agree with you.
The women he’s talking to (the one of the screen) points out that segregation and integration weren’t the only options. If the “white” culture is still the “dominant” culture, in that it will denigrate any culture from that deviates from that - including lots of Black culture (while also profiting off that culture).
She goes on to point out that culture is made up anyway and is made to seem “natural”… but it’s not, of course. It doesn’t exist in nature outside of us and our actions, but it exists within our minds. She argues that we can use culture to engender equality rather than hierarchy, because that’s what happened after civil rights, that integration just reinforced hierarchy in new ways, hence integration failed Black Americans…
One thing he said is that there is a shared identity, globally, for Black people, and I don’t know that that is entirely true - other than through the trauma visited upon the African diaspora and Africans for several centuries now, in the name of white supremacy, “civilization”, and capitalism…
For many months, Good Law Project has been working to help a young man who has been denied justice after he was sexually assaulted by a star journalist at the Daily Mail.
The young man, who works for the publisher of the Mail, and who we shall call X, was groped by the journalist, whom we are naming only as J.
The Daily Mail Group has previously received a complaint of sexual assault by J from at least one other young man. It knows he has sent unwanted sexual messages to at least one other young man. These are not the only victims of J to whom Good Law Project has spoken. And reports of J’s sexual misconduct have been circulating for well over a decade: it is an open secret.
I’m shocked… SHOCKED… that the Daily Fail shielded a predator.…
This happens far too often… everyone knows that someone is engaged in sexual abuse, but too many people just ignore it, because “oh well, what can you do!” Well, you can do a lot, actually!
I’ve added him to the list of re-arrested Jan 6 rioters. Although I can’t see him doing much if any time for this; it wasn’t the fatal DUI, or soliciting a minor that some of the others have done.
