I will say, that strategy is NOT going to work out where we are, since the area we live is now pretty much Black majority. I don’t know how many people out our way are participating in the Target Fast, but I’m sure it’s not an insignificant number.

Don’t kid yourselves, there are a whole lot of parents, mostly but not exclusively, dads who will take this as role model behavior. I have heard more than one dad tell me that he “never talks to his kids, he commends them, he dominates them. That’s how a man does it.” I feel so bad for these kids. But, honestly, that was my dad as well. It’s a terrible model, but it is there.
