Well… that depends, of course. Sometimes people from the Balkans aren’t considered quite white (in the same way the Irish weren’t)…but yeah, if they’re of Croatian or Serbian background - white, but Bosniak or Albanian? More likely to be muslim, so aren’t they REALLY Turkish? And sometimes Slavic people aren’t considered white, either. They were certainly on the untermenschen list of the Nazis…
Really indicates the problem with whiteness, that it has not stable definition based on anything other than the direct ideological need at any given moment. 19th century, Irish in Ireland, dying from a famine - not white. Irish Americans in the 20th century, helping to police the racial borders as cops in NYC and Boston - very white.
