“They are lying” should be the default assumption at all times. Anyone taking these assholes at face value is either stupid or collaborating.

“Good guys” seem to be almost non-existent. Cowardice and compliance are omnipresent, even among the people and organizations you’d expect to be resisting the most. It really feels like the vast majority of Americans have only been pretending to have any kind of integrity or deeply-held values, especially when trans people are being targeted. The second it becomes dangerous or even slightly inconvenient to hold on to those values, they’re tossed aside without a second thought. I will never understand and I will never forgive, but I’m in such an extreme minority that in the end it won’t matter to anyone. We’re the weird ones for actually caring.

I just got this in email:

The U.S. Department of State approved your application for your passport card. We’re now printing your passport card and preparing to give it to you.

You requested expedited service when you applied. Expedited service can take 2-3 weeks. Our processing times begin the day we receive your application at a passport agency or center, not the day you submit it. You should receive your passport card on or around 02/25/2025.

(They received my application on Jan 17 according to USPS, and notified me that they began processing it on Jan 21, so that’s 4 weeks to now. I’m not planning to need it for travel anyway. I assume they have changed my X to an M, but they haven’t said anything at all about it so I really don’t know. I don’t feel at all confident actually using a passport card with an X at this point, even though I also kind of hope that’s what I got. So… I dunno.)

Public comments are open on the changes to the passport application process. (Not that they haven’t already implemented the changes.)

Note, you don’t even have to be a US citizen to comment.
