Um.... what.... aka, this is the dumbest thing I've ever read

No. Nope. Uh-uh.

Can’t be worse than the original film.

Which, “Lady for a Day” or “Pocketful of Miracles”?

Guys and Dolls, 1955

Oh gawd, I’m sorry - I stayed up late last night and watched both G&D and PoM! I got 'em mixed up due to both being Damon Runyon-based.

And it could be worse, I’m so sure. If they updated it. But if the did it more like the B-way show (just hearing Robert Alda and Sam Levene as Skye & Nathan, respectively, makes me wonder why they weren’t called in), well…maybe it would be good. I’m so behind on current talent. They don’t even have a cast yet and they’re talking about release this year? Sounds like the road to Production Hell, doesn’t it?

My one sentence review of Picket Full of Miracles: “Wait, why isn’t Sinatra in this, and where is the song?!”

LOL, yeah, the only songs in that are when Queenie performs…and Sheldon Leonard’s in both, which DEFinitely doesn’t help.

A good way I’m gonna use: Which one has Stubby Kaye?

As noted in the replies…

  1. ovis is the word for sheep, Ovid was a poet
  2. “code 19” doesn’t mean surrender in any military codes I found, but I found reference to it in police code to mean either “disaster alert” or “drunk”

So… by her own logic, what covid-19 really means is “see drunk poet”. And, I mean, sure, but that’s just how they’re practicing their art, no need to draw attention to them…

There are not enough ways to say “fuck off, and keep fucking off….” in any language.

I grew up in Birmingham, AL - I lived there from 1971 (age 2) - 1987 (age 18). My parents continued to live there until the 2000s. I completed my Masters degree at University of Alabama Birmingham and have continued to have a relationship with Birmingham.

My grandparents lived in Montgomery, AL.

I spent a lot of time in both places.

I can confidently say that being a black person in both places in the 50s absolutely was a terror. Even when I was a kid, it was terrible. These days, there is some improvement, especially in Birmingham, but it’s still extremely segregated.

My grandparents had a black maid, Ella. I remember once or twice riding along with my grandparents to drive her home, and how incredibly different the black side of town was from where my grandparents lived. I had never seen such stark poverty.

It disgusts me that any white person would claim that they have it worst than black people in the 50s.

Also, this bs that the movement was all about going to church or school - it was about not being killed. All of these factors are ways to help black people have more control over their own safety.

It’s a depressingly common thing:

There are obviously many other issues with this garbage, but: “scorching desert outback of Tasmania”?!

Someone clearly never learned that “desert” =/= “hot”. And on top of that, neglected to look up the environment of the specific area they were talking about.

It’s nice of them to pretty much detail the entire plot in the blurb, though. Saves anyone from having to read the thing.
