(US) Representative Follies

There’;s a case to be made for limiting copyright to a period substantially less than 75 years + life. I celebrate Publiic Domain Day every year.

Alas. it has been made, and the public lost.

still, this strikes me as sneaky

(2) RETROACTIVE EFFECT.—
(A) IN GENERAL.—Subject to subparagraph (B), subsection (a) shall apply with re- spect to a copyright that, on any date on or after May 1, 2022, is owned by a person that—

(ii)(I) is classified under North Amer- ican Industry Classification System code 5121 or 71; or

5121 is Motion Picture and Sound Recording Industries; 71 is Arts Entertainment and Recreation.

“Look at that,” Sean Hannity said on Fox News Thursday night, pointing to a photo being shown next to him, “pallets and pallets of baby formula for illegal immigrants and their families even as hardworking American” – and now there was another photo – “families, we are now suffering a massive nationwide shortage.” The photos had been provided to Fox by the office of GOP Rep. Kat Cammack , whose account of someone in the Border Patrol telling her of “pallets” of formula being sent to a border processing center had set off a whole outrage cycle on the right. They were used Friday morning as well on “Fox & Friends” during an extended interview with Cammack.

And they did not show baby formula.

The photo Hannity pointed to, and the one that followed it, showed boxes and boxes clearly labeled NIDO . As anyone at Fox could have discovered with about a minute’s worth of fact-checking, NIDO is not baby formula; it is powdered milk. As its maker, Nestlé, specifically notes: “NIDO® products are only intended for children ages 1 year and older.”

I think they’re trying to convince their supporters that foreign babies are a threat to their own.

Well, of course. Because apparently “let babies we have in detention starve to death so there’s more food for the ones not in detention” is a way to get votes from 40% of the population these days.

Stefanik echoed racist theory allegedly espoused by Buffalo suspect

While Stefanik has not pushed the theory by name, she and other conservatives have echoed the tenets of the far-right ideology as part of anti-immigrant rhetoric that has fired up the Republican base ahead of the midterm elections.

It marks a rapid transformation for Stefanik, who has sought to firmly align herself with former president Donald Trump and his nativist “Make America Great Again” agenda over the last year after she replaced Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as GOP conference chair. Cheney was pushed out for criticizing Trump’s role in spreading falsehoods about his election loss and for stoking the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Very happy that Fetterman won a decisive victory in the Dem primary in PA. He can attract GOP voters and is the best chance to gain a Senate seat.

Imagining a world where we can go around Manchin.

Saying the quiet part out loud?

The comment left the audience in an awkward silence. Then, Bush shrugged and said under his breath: “Iraq, too.”

We will have to refill the continental aquifers at some point, but pushing brine uphill is going to be a project driven by coastal communities to begin with. A network of brine pipelines and desalination will only be extended by local demand using solar and wind. Unless Utah really wants to front the money for the project… but that’s only likely to be a bullet point in some part if the Nuscale power plant scam.

Well, that was an impressively worse answer than the typical GOP response…

They’re using a sick and disabled man to further their agenda. It doesn’t have to be much worse than that.

But the NFL shoulda prepared him for that, so…
