WTAF…
So, logically, more deaths would be better. Defunding the CDC makes so much more sense now!
I can think of some deaths that would be an unquestionable good.
Yeah, this headline gave me hope that others shared that view…until I read the article:
I just went ahead and re-vaxed, just a few moments ago. Quicker, easier, and cheaper than the rigmarole of going to PCP to authorize a titer and then to the lab to get the titer.
Oddly, perhaps sinisterly, my pharmacy, Publix, mentions the MMR vaccine on its main vaccine page, but it’s not listed in the drop-down menu when you select the vaccine for your appointment. I had to call in.
Just wondering, how long has it been since your previous one?
I presume about 40-something years ago. Maybe it’s not needed, but I figure it couldn’t hurt. It’s also recommended for international travelers which I may be in the relatively near future.
Measles immunity is usually a bit longer lasting, but mumps fades surprisingly quickly. In fact, the majority of the “lifelong” vaccines are emphatically not lifelong. They very much rely on having the youngsters, who are the usual pool of infection, vaccinated to keep the exposure to a minimum. Sadly, as with most “childhood” illnesses, adults very much can get them, and they are infinitely worse in older folks.
Thanks, and to Chuck. Is rhere one for TB too?
Yes, but not generally available in the US. As far as I can tell.
Yes, the BCG is out there, but rarely given in the US. Effectiveness is only about 50%, with some studies showing high 30’s. Not great, but in high-prevalence areas, better than nothing. How long until that includes us? Anyone’s guess.
I did the same 2 years ago. It was a very long time since my original vaccination. My doc was fine with it. Got the tetanus too.
I would do the TB as well- but I don’t see anywhere to get it.
We may all see some relocation, given our circumstances. I’d rather do what I can do ahead of time.
Yep, I’ve gotten all vaccinations that seem appropriate, while they’re still available. I also looked into TB vax, couldn’t find it locally. If I return to Asia, I plan to look into getting it there.
While I was in China, I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. Next day, he contacts me, “guess what, I’m in the hospital with tuberculosis!”
I’m not sorry to see that scrap heap go. She’s been rusting away for 30 years with no restoration really happening.
I’m wondering if that will be able to see it sink from his southern hangout.
Can we get him a front-row seat? Like, on the foredeck?
