Yes, they are stating that neurodivergence is a behavioral disorder that needs treatment, which is complete bullshit. The patent states that stimulating the vagus nerve could modify behavior, and I interpret it as doing so without actually shocking the person into submission. I see a parallel with epilepsy: I’m on a drug (lamictal) that controls it, but people for whom drugs don’t work have been successfully treated with electrical stimulation. Parkinson’s disease is another example: if drugs don’t or no longer work, then electrical stimulation might.
The problem is that epilepsy and Parkinson’s are genuine illnesses that can have unpleasant or damaging symptoms that patients want to treat. And they can be treated electrically. Putting ADHD for example in that same category needing treatment is just wrong. Things should be changed systemically to allow everyone to thrive without drugs, electrical stimulation, or shock treatment.
But if I interpret the patent in combination with the company’s other devices, it seems to me to not be a shock treatment, but an attempt to twist a treatment method used successfully for other conditions to a problem that doesn’t exist. For obvious $$$ reasons.

Given how long death penalty cases take, they’re presumably counting on women being forced to give birth in prison well before they’re executed. On the other hand, given how a little a shit they actually care about fetuses (much less real babies/children) and that the real intent is to control women, I could easily see them being fine with executing pregnant women, undeterred by the apparent hypocrisy. The intended effect - terrorizing women - is still there, and even bigger, really, because it’s even more horrifying to line up pregnant women and murder them with a firing squad. It’s peak barbarity, which is the MAGA brand.

Also, of course, we have the usual problem of women having miscarriages being prosecuted for having abortions, but now they face the death penalty, too. (And not just miscarriages mistaken for deliberate abortions, but miscarriages where the mother’s behavior, however reasonable, gets blamed for the miscarriage. So any behavior deemed “less than perfect” before a miscarriage puts women in double jeopardy - if they survive the miscarriage itself, they risk the death penalty.)
