I don’t know. Worked alright for Disney. At one point they ran the largest fleet of private submarines in the World without killing any of their customers. There have been several proven designs in use since the 1960ies.
However, cutting corners on maintenance or crew training is a big DON’T …

The picture looks like RS 250 from Wärtsilä AB, Finland. Which also tracks with 46 persons being on bord. The ‘250’ in the type name stands for it’s nominal diving depth in feet, so just a bit more than 75 m.

If it really is a RS 250, it’s possible that it is one of a batch of four built ~35 years ago. Possibly the one used off Majorca in the 1990ies. Which would raise questions about its condition and certification.

I think it’s worth mentioning that Disney’s subs never fully submerged.

The Disney ones were boats that never fully submerged, they just had a seating area that was below the water line. (The whole attraction both in CA and FL was a very costly maintenance nightmare anyway, apparently.)

The West Edmonton Mall had actual submarines, though.

And they were on a track. I was being sarcastic.

This article was amended on 31 March 2025… …an earlier main image has been replaced for editorial reasons.

The original image was truly horrible.

Surprising and scary that it’s unclear what caused the die off.

Hasn’t Boston Dynamics already perfected hordes of robotic pollinating bees?

I guess the land mines in Finland and the other nations will be deployed along any borders with Russia.

Which is completely to be expected, and wise.

So this wasn’t on purpose? :grinning:

I remember once in 1991, we visited my SIL when she was living in Center City, and she was bumping or pushing the car in front of her to make more room to park her car. I was aghast and said something like “Yeah. That’ll get you shot in LA.” (It was just after the peak of car shootings that you see in the documentary LA Story .)

They’re really serious about having exact fare.

Accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes?

To me, that looks very unlikely in the video. Looks more like road rage (though as usual, the video is very brief and context free).

From what I’ve been reading for the last decade or so, it’s less a case of “what’s killing off the bees?” and more “what’s not killing off the bees?” There’s a whole bunch of overlapping factors, a significant one being common use of pesticides that are banned in most of the world because they’re persistent in the environment and are known to kill bees…
