I’m tipping faking it. He’s that kind of guy.
The mom jeans
I’m guessing he doesn’t wear jeans all that often.
They did!? I had not heard that… Wow.
If he’s faking that shit, while Chelsea Manning is still being held in custody for refusing to testify, after being tortured with solitary for all those years… what a fucking coward.
The link is to the NY Times, but I think it may have gotten more play on this side of the pond than it did in the US.
Not surprised by that…
I am, kind of. Between Brexit and Trump, we’re in major foreign news fatigue. Our biggest news source that has an English language translation has no mention of either, more often than not:
Ah damn, it doesn’t onebox correctly.
He fits into them well. I’ll give him that.
And I suspect that when he does, they’re called dungarees.
Bonus points for the poster behind Herb most of the time he’s talking.
WKRP was underappreciated genius.
Ha! I noticed that too (and then spent twenty minutes digging through boxes looking for that disk and not finding it ). I never thought of it as a particularly iconic album cover, but I guess it did stand out, even when out of focus and in the background.
I used to love watching WKRP reruns when I was a kid. It’s a shame about the music licensing issues, though, because I’m guessing this show would be on one of the streaming services these days, otherwise.
It’d be a great publicity stunt for the music industry to give the licenses to the show.
Wouldn’t it, though?
Although the more I think about it, part of me would rather remember it fondly and not risk watching it now and discovering that it hasn’t aged well. It wouldn’t be the first time this site has helped sour me on some of the media I enjoyed when I was younger.
There are some episodes on YouTube. I think they’re all wonderful. Great ensemble work.
A co-worker have me the exact response when we were talking about WKRP last week.
It fell into a selection of shows we both agreed to never revisit as the memories of them are much better than what we would find.
I was pretty young when the show was first run, and I had no idea what was going on. But I liked the theme.
Anyway it lived in my memory, for a couple of decades, as just another tacky show from that time.
I recently saw a few episodes on Antenna TV and I was surprised how good it was. I would describe it as a very childish show about very adult issues.
And, may I add, you have never seen anything as absurd as Herb Tarkek dressed as the WKRP Carp in a public bathroom.
I have shows that I feel the same about. I’d like to see them again and feel that way again, but sometimes that doesn’t work well.
What I have done is start watching some of the old shows that I didn’t see when I was a kid. @RAvery started it, by posting about Car 54 Where Are You, and now I’ve branched out to others. For awhile, I can tune out the modern world and go back to a simple, funny, happy time. Another one I’ve been watching is The Real McCoys.
2 Quads Amazing
One of the things I have always appreciated about the Russian skaters (and gymnasts) is that they always have training in ballet. There’s no substitution for that.
