I have never desired an object as much as this one. It is so beautiful, quirky, and just plain cool.
We have a lot of local peeps selling eggs. Iâve been nervous to buy from them because of avian flu. I assume they are not testing. How would a local seller know if their birds had it?
I donât know if thereâs a test farmers can use or not. The only way Iâm aware of involves sending samples to a lab. I strongly suspect a lot of folks who experience unexplained illness or death in their flocks will keep quiet about it to avoid having their entire flock culled, which of course just aids the spread. It looks like pasteurized eggs are safe but I donât think many small operations do that.
The Soy Right is being oppressed and they want you to know it. Theyâre scared to take the subway, theyâre offended that you called them white or cis, theyâre upset that you didnât think they were cool in high school, they want to call the manager because thereâs less boobies in video games. They are crybabies of the highest order. While the right is winning cultural and political victories nonstop lately, thatâs not enough. They also need you to like them. Why donât you like them?!
It really does add insult to injury that not only are we entering the dark night of rising fascism, our new fascist overlords are such fucking losers . They openly cry about no one wanting to sleep with them, they tell you their small penises are a sign of their racial purity, they have mental breakdowns if you boo them. Never before has a group of people collectively been more worthy of being shoved into lockers than the Soy Right.
But how did they get like this? The culture of the right wing is primarily a culture of grievance and resentment. The Daily Wire probably wouldnât exist if those Hollywood libs accepted Ben Shapiroâs scripts 20 years ago. For every person who ever âleft the leftâ thereâs a story that precedes it of being mocked one too many times by lefties online. The villain origin story of most of Andrew Tateâs fanbase is one of being friend-zoned by some girl whose affection they felt entitled to. The common thread among so many of those on the right is that they at one point or another felt excluded, pilloried, or called out by the cultural mainstream, and instead of becoming better people, they leaned in hard to an ideology that expected less of them.
A story about how a talk therapy program called the Friendship Bench began, and expanded to help vulnerable people in multiple countries:
You can pasteurize your own eggs⌠1 hour at 140 F in a sous vide bath (in shell).
But thatâs if youâre making mousse or mayo, if youâre cooking them well, itâs less of a worry.
Sure, I know I could but I donât believe most small local sellers bother. I typically sell with the bloom intact so I donât pasteurize. Iâm also not concerned about the flu from a cooking standpoint, since raw eggs are nasty and I cook all mine thoroughly before eating. Iâm terrified of the avian flu since the treatment when itâs detected seems to be to kill every bird, cow, cat, and dog who may have been infected.
My comment was answering @ChickieD âs question about how to know if their local sellersâ eggs were safe, and letting them know that if the sellers pasteurize then the eggs should be safe. I shouldâve also added that even flu eggs are likely safe to eat if cooked.
No thanks, Iâll go elsewhere.
Itâs really not that difficult to cancel an unneeded reservation.
Right?
People who book at multiple restaurants, or just donât show up without canceling, are assholes. Restaurants are often independent businesses with low profit margins. I think itâs great they have ways of reducing this kind of expense.

It was self healing concrete.
Very interesting.

Itâs interesting that the employment of âhot-mixingâ (apparently critical to achieving the concreteâs durability) was not ever mentioned in surviving records, at least in Pliny the Elderâs writings. I wonder if that part of the process was kept secret by the Romans.
