What Are You Listening To?

On my way to see Peter Murphy and David J play In the Flat Fields. If Halloween was a thing here, that would be incredible appropriate :bat:

Very envious.

Let us know how it was!

Brilliant…probably the best I’ve seen him sing, and his guitarist seems to get better every time he’s over (read: virtually indistinguishable from Daniel Ash).

If you’ll all excuse me, I will be headbanging to Ziggy for the rest of the night :metal:

I have this Remembrance Day tradition where I always listen to Skids’ Joy, and especially their cover of the ballad “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” (knife-twister/tear-jerker about Gallipoli, from the point of view of an Australian veteran, though it was written by a Scotsman).

Anyway, I randomly decided to look them up on allmusic.com, and found out they put out a new album in 2018! It is called Burning Cities, and it is doing my heart good. It’s punky without being noisy, energetic without being annoying, positive without being sappy.

And pretty much every song on the thing is political, but somehow without being lecturing or depressing.

I bought a copy of the music files from 7digital, but I’m sure it’s on streaming services. Or you can listen on YouTube here:

Oh my, how… typical? I’ve generally liked his programs, but … Yes … This is unfortunate

I know some people who refuse to listen to Philip Glass, but this is probably his most listenable. Good for quiet background music while programming or what have you.

I just watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and his music was the soundtrack… very nice.

He’s in a lot of movies. Errol Morris won’t use anyone else.

Indeed. The only CDs I have by him are a couple of film soundtracks. It’s good stuff.

I think my favorite part of Candyman is Philip Glass’ soundtrack. I haven’t tracked down the CD yet, but I’d like to.

I did not realize he did the soundtrack to Candyman!

Some of his early stuff is a little relentless and hard to take. My wife leaves the house whenever I play Koyaanisqatsi. The soundtrack to Mishima is another great one, too.

I can’t get Garbage out of my head. I happened across this one pair of live songs, then started following the links from there and realized that I had heard them a lot back in the day and liked a lot of their songs but never knew who they were. I wish I’d gone to some of their concerts.

As a side note, I’m having a bit of trouble finding concerts to go to. All the bands on my list are touring Europe and/or the rest of the world, but it seems no one wants to come to the U.S. anymore. :frowning: We used to go every few months, but the last year was a wash and so far we only have 1 scheduled for 2019 (LoA). I’d love some suggestions for bands that are touring this year that I should see. (prefer small venues, not arena concerts; unusual bands is a plus, pretty much any genre).
