Whatcha Watchin'?

thanks, Wikipedia! as things go, it’s both right and wrong: “Petyr descends from a Braavosi sellsword who served House Corbray. His father befriended Lord Hoster Tully during the War of the Ninepenny Kings, and Tully took the young Petyr as a ward.”

Fucking amazing show. All the episodes are lovely in their own way but my favorite is ep 2.

with Martin Scorcese as the dispatcher (voice)

Michael K Williams, who played Omar Little is in this movie, though it’s a minor role.

Pretty much the maximum dosage of Portlandia writing I can handle. It’s like Fred Armisen got held to some standards and overridden on the important points and the effort spent directing. Every person on that set pops.

I just discovered and devoured season 3 of Full Custom Garage on Amazon Prime Video.

Ian Roussel is a genius car fabricator and metal worker, and seems like a genuinely nice guy,. The five episodes available see him revisit and update some of the projects he worked on before, and I had never seen them among the reruns on the Motor Trend channel (formerly Velocity). And while I don’t know if I could ever fully appreciate his style, his creative approach is inspiring no matter what your medium is.

If you have access to Amazon Prime Video, you can access them here.

Okay, I finally started watching Marie Kondo on Netflix, mostly to gear up for finishing my own tidying, and I am kind of annoyed at the book hoarders who claim “spark joy” does not apply to all books you should keep. Right in the second episode, Kondo explains “spark joy” means “what you want to take with you into the future”. That covers pretty much any book which is important to you, even the most cathartic ones, even the driest reference tome. Even that’s weird, because if you’re a book lover, you probably get a lot of joy grim some of your references. I treated myself to a one-volume version of the OED when I graduated, and I’ve got a lot of joy, and use, from that book over the years.

A bunch of other books, on the other hand – ill-chosen gifts, books to read because “it’s good for you”, bestsellers which disappointed – those I could toss without a moment’s hesitation.

Sorting through the books that give me joy makes space for more books that give me joy.

This one was great.

Even libraries regularly weed their collections. Also, most of us have spent time browsing used bookstores, or had those as the place we could actually afford to buy a treasured book. Where do these people think that stock comes from? The magic book fairy?

If you truly love books and reading, the kind thing is to share.

This may not look as impressive as the 1080p version on amazon, or the version I saw in theatres, but I liked how this scene was edited/photographed.

also, this film probably would be vilified for encouraging self harm.

Finished watching Sorry to Bother You last night, and it was great, in a weird way. Think alternate universe crazy like Idiocracy or Seeking a Friend at the End of the World.
So many cool actors and comedians in this one…Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Steven Yeun, and an all-star cast as minor characters. Also, voice acting from David Cross and Patton Oswalt.

If you enjoy train wrecks, I suggest Voyeur on Netflix, following Gay Talese’s pursuit of publishing his book Voyeur’s Motel.
Not only is Foos interesting enough, but the doc poses serious questions about journalistic integrity and how the documenting process is never completely true to itself.

At first I thought you were serious, and was going to suggest Unstoppable!

Anyone else watched any of Trigger Warning yet? We got through the first 3 episodes, and I’m enjoying it. I disagreed with his comments at the beginning of episode 2, but I like where he went with the concept of bringing job training skills to the internet via porn…And the fact that he brought in a sex positive sex therapist was interesting. Also, I’m totally going to seek out some crip-a-cola and Blood pop soon… but so far, things seem thin on the ground in that regard.
