Sadly, they didn’t have the rights. Disney literally needed to buy 20th C. Fox to get their X-Men and FF movie rights back, despite the fact that Fox has been whiffing on those movies a lot more than they’ve been hitting (for those keeping score at home, that means just about everything is back in Marvel Studios’ hands, except for Sony still having the film rights to Spider-Man (& rogues), and Universal still having distribution rights for Hulk-centred movies).
We should see a FF movie in a few years. I’m also hoping there will be a post-credit reveal of VVD and Latveria in the upcoming Dr. Strange movie.
In my defense, I’ve been asking that question since she was cast as Jane Foster. She is absolutely unbelievable to me as any kind of scientist or hero (or anything else – she’s one of those actors who really doesn’t portray well to me).
I liked her in V for Vendetta. I do think that she hasn’t been that great a Jane Foster thus far, but at least some of that has to be attributed to the writing - neither of the first two Thor movies gave her all that much to do.
I know I’ve watched Your Highness and Zoolander, but I don’t remember much of anything about the former, and she didn’t have much of a role in the latter (not that I remember it all that much better anyway).
…I think that’s just about all I’ve seen her in, so I’m willing to give her a shot, now that she’s actually being given a meaningful role in the film.
I dunno about “whatifs” but I thought Jane becoming Thor was cannon:
Becoming Thor
While Thor was away fighting Gorr the God Butcher, Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer.[48] She later accepted Thor’s invitation to represent Midgard (Earth) in the Congress of Worlds on Asgard while she underwent therapy, but refused magical treatments.[49] During a battle against Nick Fury, Thor lost the ability to wield his hammer Mjolnir.[50] The hammer remained unattended on the Moon,[1] from where it telepathically sought Jane out. Jane eventually gave in to the hammer’s call, and requested Heimdall to take her to the hammer’s location.[51] Once there, Jane picked up Mjolnir, gaining Thor’s powers and transforming and improving her physique.[1] Since she had watched Thor use his hammer, Jane slowly learned how to use Mjolnir by example.[2]
Jane soon found herself in the middle of Malekith the Accursed’s alliance with Frost Giants who were planning on bringing Laufey back to life.[2] The original Thor soon caught up with Jane, demanding his hammer back.[52] Thor ultimately accepted that the hammer had a new owner and gave Jane his blessing, still while not knowing her identity. He also gave Jane his name, and subsequently went by Odinson only.[4]
Re-watching Elementary from the beginning. I don’t know why, it’s very formulaic but I’ve always liked mystery. I’ve been trying to write stories recently so I’ve been trying to really peek a look behind the scenes of story and timing. The endless repetition of the variations of the formula and the grindingly slow character arcs are mesmerizing.
I’ve only watched the first season, but I have to commend Elementary on an original twist on both the Prof. Moriarty and Irene Adler characters. I enjoyed what I watched of it.
Also, it was nice catching up with Zero Cool Crash Override again.
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE season 3 dropped on netflix and it. Is. Amazing. Like, balm for the soul. After engaging in The Discourse day in and day out and fighting The Good Fight every day, it feels great to drop into a show where evrybody gets it.
I especially like that it didn’t follow the script from before; it upended so many of our assumptions and in some way, started over while still building on all that had come before. It felt more mature, just like the students themselves would be.
I’m watching Song of the Thin Man (1947, the last one), and it features the earliest mentions of “square” and “hipster” I’ve ever heard.
The film’s not as good as the first couple, but it’s still eminently watchable. Powell and Loy are so perfect together. I’ll have to see some of their non Thin Man films sometime.
Recentty, I’ve been watching a lot of TwoSetViolin, getting in my culture. It’s terribly memeified content and its viewers may be easy prey, but I’ve been noticing a lot of ads-- ads in the middle, ads at the end, ads at the beginning. Is this normal for youtube?
I travelled up in New York state last week, and stopped at the Storm King Sculpture Park which has a permanent installation by this guy. Reminded me that it’s been awhile since I last saw this doc. Well worth it if you’ve never seen it, and even if you have.
One of the maker channels I watch to relax to suddenly had ads popping up in the middle of the video. No subtle cut, just some guy making a knife then annoying ad for some online video game and then back to the maker.
