Whatcha Watchin'?

I’m not a huge Tim Burton fan, but Cats would’ve totally been his thing if they’d got him to do it

Snuck out for a long lunch and watched it today.

I think it could have been two movies, but it was a very serviceable Star Wars film.

But, damn, Lando isn’t she a bit young for you.

There was apparently a plot arc that was cut, where it was revealed that Lando’s daughter was kidnapped as an infant by the First Order, so that was probably originally intended to lead into a tie-in story. (spoilered mainly because apparently the novelization [edit: may include] some cut plot lines, which is all kinds of annoying).

It really feels like a lot of plot lines got cut out or drastically cut down in the movie, which I suppose explains the somewhat frantic editing of the first half. So, yeah, could have been two, or even three movies.

I thought that it felt like that could be what they were heading with it.

But I do have to say after the defeat of the robot army in the prequels by destroying the command ship, you’d think that a less centralized control system would just be boiler plate to any large military contract

That’s assuming that anyone on the Empire’s side would be ok with any kind of decentralized CnC. The Sith are kinda obsessive about avoiding that with the whole “only a master and an apprentice” thing, and it seems to trickle down quite efficiently from there, with the amount of backstabbing present in their organization reinforcing it. Kind of amazing that they had the ability to hand off control to other source points at all, now that I think about it…

Finished the second season, finally

Decent writing, and the actors really sell it

Just caught this last night. I got the impression that the cast was having a ton of fun making this movie.

The movie probably should have a special section in the Lampshading section of tvtropes.

Craig was terrific… I heard that Johnson was looking at making a series of movies centered on Craig’s character, which could be amusing.

I’d love to see that. Not just because he has pretty eyes.

Finished watching Mr. Robot. Great last episodes, but many of the previous felt like filler. It has two endings, one physical and the other mental. It had a twist I didn’t see coming but might be obvious to the internet savvy.

Or maybe just to the masterminds.

i find it funny that people took it that way, because it did NOT read to me that way. i just took it as a setup for a possible future side adventure thread.

weird anachronistic noir where we can’t even tell what decade it’s supposed to be

I just watched the pilot and decided that was more than enough for me.

But on the other hand, I saw Knives Out with my kid yesterday and we both really liked it.

My only minor complaint of the entire film is that horribly done Southern accent.

Alex Cox made a deliberately anachronistic movie about American shenanigans in Nicaragua

It was a similarly well-intentioned mistake

A real period piece can be educational, but when they mix everything together it’s just mud and slush

That cast! I listened to the Dollop on Walker. He popped up in several others as well, with all the California history they do. Too bad the movie seems to have made no ripples.

The road to hell, and bad tv/movies, apparently.

In the realm of good tv, someone recently introduced me to the show I’m Sorry, which is hilarious… even though I usually don’t like cringe-comedy.

For my birthday, we went to see Rise of Skywalker… other than feeling a bit crowded and rushed (apparently Abrams wanted it to be 3 hours and Disney pushed back for 2 and half hours (2:37 exactly) and then the RELEASE was only 2: 21…), it was pretty much straight up what I expected. There were tons of call backs to the original series, lots of cameos, they tied in Rey’s past with the larger Skywalker story, despite being a Palpatine instead of a Skywalker, they gave Ben/Kylo Ren a redemption arc… Seems like lots of people were overly upset over not much, frankly.

yep, pretty much that.

If we took a dozen random monster-of-the-week episodes of Doctor Who and put them in a blender

and then if we thought we knew how time travel worked but we’d been wrong all this time
