Whatcha Watchin'?

I’m not into whining about spoilers after a show has aired when I don’t have whatever streaming service it’s on…

river-song-spoilers

But this season of Doctor Who, io9, which is usually pretty good about putting spoilers behind the fold, has had several major spoilers the day after the show aired… they used to be better about that kind of thing, at least waiting a bit to put major spoilers on the headline/front page, but no longer apparently.

Anyway, just a minor annoyance.

Thanks for the heads up!

It’s usually not an issue with them, but now it’s all over the headline… I wish they’d wait at least a little bit, ya know.

same problem here – we’re a week or so behind, and iO9 has been really lax about putting spoilers right in the damn headers this season. i’m just trusting in my horrendous memory these days, and hoping that when we get around to watching i’m still surprised.

I don’t know all about why people might have beefs with Seth MacFarlane

but for one thing the circumstances under which Halston Sage left the show seemed pretty shady

The series itself oscillates between mediocre and pretty good, but by the end of Season 2 it gets way too focused on the captain’s relationship with his ex-wife, who is also his executive officer

I don’t mind some romantic subplots, but when they take over a show that’s supposed to be about something else, and the same kind of thing was going on IRL behind the scenes …

Yeah… This never would have happened when Annalee or Charlie Jane were editors… we’ll probably wait to get the DVDs, so for that long, I’d expect spoilers to be floating about, and wouldn’t be put out by it… but the day after? Too soon!

My BFF sent me that link, and that was the exact gif I sent back; I wasn’t caught up to current yet.

Just got around to this one:

It looks like a sort of hard sci-fi quest like 2001 or something, but it’s got the form without the substance.

The actual science is nonsense. Nobody involved with this knows anything about anything.

As @gadgetgirl mentioned, the early episodes are structured like reality TV gossip shows.

Then for a while it’s like a trivia game where you try to guess which movie each scene is from.

By the end it settles down to something like Battlestar Galactica or Starship Troopers.

Anyway, if you liked the last dozen space opera shows, this one’s OK too.

It’s kinda derivative, but at least it’s not a literal sequel or reboot of something else.

Not related, but each time I’ve seen that name in this thread, my first thought is

…and I’ve gotten kinda excited, just to hit a letdown…

Netflix’s Next in Fashion was everything you dream Project Runway could be. The final runway moment is so beautiful it made me cry. And the winner could not deserve it more. Everyone that this person beat saw the they were the superior designer.

will probbaly be watching this.

The inclusion of black and white images makes me think this will have similarities to The Aviator and (of course) The Grand Budapest Hotel, in that each part is “filmed” using a different style.

We watched Children of Men last night. What a lovely nightmarish dystopia, especially right after Brexit.

Watched the first episode of Dispatches from Elsewhere. Feels similar to The Game movie. The characters are trying to figure out if the augmented reality is a game, a hoax, a conspiracy, or reality. The narrator breaks the fourth wall constantly. Powerful trans lead character. The sets are stylish and the action right now is very random. My only concern is with so much going on, the ending will either be ambiguous or disappointing. So far it is pushing all of my mystery box buttons so I’ll keep watching.

I’m concerned that the way Elsewhere is portrayed could never match the image I have in my head.

Final Episode: “You mean to tell me all the dispatches are coming from THIS CAFE?”

the crown s3 e5 coup.

the dichotomy between Lord Mountbatten’s cunning and Brenda’s newfound enthusiasm for animal husbandry amuses me.

Apparently this is a series?

I guess Person of Interest has ended or something.

hilarious. and accurate.

Eh, ok, but not terribly exciting. Perhaps I would have been more keen if this episode wasn’t being filtered through such a bland central character. A more gleefully fun or menacing tone would have enticed me more. (Yes, there was the ending for menace, but 1) that didn’t feel connected to the “whatever” and 2) putting it at the very end felt tacked on.)

ETA: Went ahead and watched the second episode. Better, as it focuses on a more interesting character, Simone. The tone still isn’t what I would prefer somehow though. They seem to be going for some kind of magic (perhaps a la Jacques Rivette?), but I’m not really feeling it.
