The Outsider. It’s got me so far the first episode.
No character has said “long-lost twin”, so far, so I’m irritated.
Update:
They finally addressed it, but as red herrings go, it was sequenced at least two episodes too late.
So just like the first time he showed up?
I just saw a trailer for Avenue 5. Apparently Hugh Laurie is still doing the American accent. Why? Hugh, your real accent is good enough!
The speaker says that she thinks her harp may have been once owned by Harpo Marx, but Wurlitzer’s records were destroyed in a fire. (6m45s)
Watched it over the past coupla weeks while at my best friend’s place helping with the kids and dog-sitting while they were away. (That’s where I’ve been since before Christmas. Had two days back home and am returning later today… hi everyone )
The messiah is oh so very pretty but the ending just left me feeling wtf?!
Just one episode left…even with a couple of long team dinners I should make it
You got this!
Bored, not feeling like doing much of anything… let’s see, what’s on the Plex server I haven’t watched in a while…
Oh, yeah, this ought to lead to some interesting dreams tonight. Especially since I watched the more well-known “Cube” only a few days ago. Just so long as the dreams don’t end up just being a bunch of strawberry jam…
Saw this on the plane. Very odd, a 30 minute program dedicated to “American Rock,” a genre whose exemplars are Boston, REO Speedwagon, and Styx. Actually, these three are the only bands mentioned at all, even in passing. I’ve never heard this term, AR, used before to define these groups. Is this a British thing? Or is it just that Behind the Music that Sucks was already taken?
Finished binging season 3 of Sex Education. Yep, still awkward to watch with my daughter though she doesn’t seem weirded out at all. I really liked the new characters and the way they built up roles of existing cast. I like how it’s gotten more inclusive. Fun show.
???
(Discourse needs this so I can post. Ignore.)
Got me. It felt like something cobbled together by someone who didn’t know what they were talking about. You could lump these three together as Arena Rock or AOR. Was that what they meant and they just forgot the correct term?
Also, the show kept bringing up the Vietnam war, despite it’s seeming irrelevance to their music.
Finally watched the last season (S11) of The X-Files.
I never saw most of the original series, but I don’t think that matters.
TXF predates today’s television conventions, where each episode starts with a quick recap of plot points from previous episodes and each scene moves a subplot forward toward some eventual resolution. TXF was always the opposite of that.
TXF doesn’t build on the events of earlier episodes to create an overall story. Each “myth arc” episode evokes a feeling of confusion and paranoia by contradicting the important events of the previous ones.
TXF is about creating a spooky and frightening mood of impending doom, but the doom never arrives. It can never even take shape. It’s better if we haven’t seen or don’t remember the earlier bits of the story, because then we think it’s our own fault that we can’t figure it out.
We’re not supposed to figure it out. There was never anything to figure out, and never will be.
So a pre-Lost type of show?
edit:
I watched the X-Files back in the day so I know about the style of the show. But the way you described it made me think of Lost. Where any mysteries that existed were there for atmosphere and not necessarily to be answered.
Saw this last night. It’s horrific, oppressive, with very tight shots from the main characters point of view. He’s on a mission while going about the work he’s being forced to do as a sonderkommando. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s an excellent film, and now on my list for one of the best WW2/Holocaust films (along with Come and See and Stalingrad). I can’t recommend it highly enough, but feel the need to issue very strong warnings about it as well.
Starting to watch October Factor on Netflix. Currently feels like Supernatural crossed with The Americans.
There’s a Season 3? Season 2 just appeared on Netflix and I haven’t seen it yet.
Good show, I agree. I’ve been meaning to mention it here. Gillian Anderson as we haven’t seen her before.
Channeling her inner Emma Thompson
Watching second season of The Orville. Much better than the first. Enjoying it, but it is still not up to STTNG standards. It’s odd; I feel like I’m watching STTNG in a parallel universe, due to the similarities (homages or ripoffs, take your pick; but I like them). I don’t know anything about Seth MacFarlane, so I don’t have any problem with him (as I’ve read some people do). I like the humor a lot.
Can anyone explain Nann’s speech patterns? It’s familiar but I must have missed that decade.
