I’ve liked what I’ve seen of it so far, but my wife has found it a bit slow.
i hear it’s actually darker, too. His Darker Materials, if you will. looking forward to it.
It’s not nearly as bad as I was expecting based on the absolutely terrible reviews it got, but I may be a bit biased due to my fondness for the source material.
I appreciated genre mash-up they attempted, but I didn’t care for the choice of making all of the kids killers on some level as part of their backstory.
“Mannix”, nearing the end of season 4. Lalo Schifrin wrote the opening theme, btw. More proof that the petroleum used to make polyester should’ve been used to make gasoline instead.
BTW, anyone ever watch “Wojeck”?
Got bored with the above, so now this:
I really liked Shameless, but it met the same fate in my family as Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad. In those shows, all the characters are flawed, and over time as those flaws come out, even in the ‘good guy’ characters, it gets to the point where they say “I hate everyone on this show, I don’t want to watch it anymore.” Someday I’ll watch them again myself and get through them.
For Shameless especially, I liked how as the seasons went on and you saw the bad parts of some of the good characters, you also saw the good parts of some of the bad characters. Made them all seem more human.
Many of characters in Shameless are very young at the start, so we watch them mature, sometimes for better, sometimes not. Mostly they’re just people trying to survive with no resources, and their petty crimes and bad behaviour are understandable.
All but Frank. On a few occasions it looks as if he is going to show a little decency, and we almost sympathize with him, but it turns out to be another self-serving scam.
In honor of Trump’s defeat, I will be rewatching “The Conformist.” A depiction of what Trump’s second, or third, or maybe fourth terms would have been like.
Perhaps I should also see “Amarcord.”
I think that’s kind of the point I hit in Breaking Bad… I really liked the show, but just hit a point where I didn’t want to watch any more.
We (family) watched the oddest movie last night. Everything Is Illuminated. It’s comedy, then WHAM! It isn’t. It does that couple of times. And it’s full of eccentric characters that are sort of believable. It’s hard to describe further without giving away the plot.
We watched (first time for my daughter) Fargo, the movie. Then we thought we’d try the tv show and the first episode was such trash we have no desire to watch more. We are completely baffled as the reviews for the show are so high. We found everything about it trite, misogynist, and mean-spirited. We were really disappointed.
SPOILER: “Das Kapital” is the Mcguffin - no, REALLY!
I really am gonna try and finish this series.
My family and I really enjoyed the show, the way all the parts came together and built on each other. But yeah, it’s one with a lot of bad people in it. Waiting to see if they get what they deserve is part of it. Haven’t seen the latest season though, I’ve heard it’s getting bad reviews.
Okay, I need your help - and the help of others if you know who can tell me the name of the guitar player and/or the entire band that appears at the beginning of this episode; IMDB is no help!
Is it the Firehouse Five Plus Two?
ZOMG, this…oh dearie me, two of my idols honoring yet another one…SQUAH-EEEEEEE!!!
No, the guitarist is black. You start to see his hair at the 5:12 mark. They’re jazz for sure. I think it may be Pete Cosey, who played with Miles Davis, but I’m not sure.
I was trying to be as absurd as possible. I really have no idea who they could be.
That’s okay, it’s just more proof that I’m neuro-atypical because I didn’t recognize that.
Possibly a clue at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOfapu8Bnk4? Doesn’t actually give the name though.
