Whatcha Watchin'?

I’ve been watching through it… there’s a lot of funkiness that seems to be due to an inability to really give weightless scenes their due (special effects-wise), and a LOT of dramatization and decisions that probably wouldn’t be made in the situation, but I’ve overall been able to forgive that, and I’m almost done with the season.

But… tonight it pissed me off.

(spoiler alert in case the spoiler tags aren’t enough)

They were put in the situation of having a hole in their hull smaller than a dime, and rather than having some duct tape handy, or slapping a sheet from a binder over it, or someone just temporarily plugging the freaking thing with their thumb… the entire crew freaks out, abandons a portion of their ship, and seals it as though they had only seconds to evacuate. Thus ensuring they lose a large amount of air, access to that portion of their ship, etc. On top of that, they were entirely capable of making it so they would end up with a smaller hole to start with. Grrrr…

I’m going to continue watching through, but sadly, they’ve burned through my suspension of disbelief. I would really like more of this kind of thing, but I’d like it with a little more attention paid to realism too, especially if it’s trying to present as a near-future, NASA-controlled sci-fi plot.

yeah, that was a wtf situation for sure. but overall i’m impressed with the general fragility of humanity in space vibe – very much akin to The Expanse to me.

Yeah, I like that. I just don’t like how things go bad from the start and then keep going that way (and sometimes in reality-defying ways) without anyone ever really pushing for a full reassessment of what’s going on. In a fully fantasy/soft sci-fi plot I can go along with that kind of thing… but.

The Expanse at least takes pains to try very hard to stick close to the realm of possibility, and kind of hangs a lampshade on most of the inexplicable things that come in as plot points.

Just finished up the last season of the Good Place. What a delightful show, with an excellent ending!

The Good Place was awesome; cant even fault you for taking your time.

I’m making my list for my personal Halloween movie marathon now;

So far Trick r Treat, Carrie and the Thing '82 are my main ideas…

I have Trick r Treat lined up too! The others I’m not certain yet, planning on picking a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, and maybe a lighter horror comedy. Only a couple days left to pick though.

Bladerunner 2049. Really looking forward to the new Dune movie, whenever it comes out.

I may or may not own a copy on DVD and a fake Jack-o-Lantern Lollipop…

I’ll put in a plug once again for a couple of my favourites, The Orphanage and Ginger Snaps.

At the very least, the most disturbing thing I’ve seen since Jacob’s Ladder

Finished Schitt’s Creak. Amazing ending.

CanCon certainly has improved since I was a kid. (Except the kids shows: Mr. Dressup and The Friendly Giant were awesome. Today’s stuff? Not so much.)

I’m starting to feel like I might be able to focus on TV or a book. Going to try for the His Dark Materials TV show.

I finished binging 10 seasons of Shameless (US version) over the summer. One of the most addictive shows I’ve ever watched. Good performances all round, but especially from William H. Macy. I don’t think I have ever loathed and despised a fictional character the way I did Frank Gallagher — a Trump-level narcissist, only smarter and more articulate.

Good choice. I understand the second season has just started.
