Whatcha Watchin'?

And Nebula, for those that prefer it:

Tale Foundry is always good, but I thought this one was particularly good. What it means to be, or to define someone as, a monster.

Didn’t really answer the title question, in my opinion. Left a lot to be said, but it explored some routes toward thinking about that and left a lot to think about in the limited 20 minute timeframe. There’s just so much more that could be said about monsters following the rules in stories. But I guess that would’ve been a much longer video.

I’m not a big wrestling fan, but this looks like a really interesting story. Also, holy crap, that’s Felicity Smoak from Green Arrow.

Oh, that does look good!

Some very good points…

Strikes, however, are not “unavoidable”. And I’m not so sure whether it’s the writers’ choice whether there is a self-contained story arc or a cliffhanger as such; I suspect the producers can overrule the writers whenever they see fit.

If you need an epic playlist of videos about David Lynch, Maggie Mae Fish collected all of hers into one playlist (including the Lynchpin podcast)…

I really love her take on the “meaning” of Twin Peaks… rather than trying to excavate the hidden meanings, she looks at how Lynch focuses on genres of TV…, which is a much more interesting way to understand the series, if you ask me.

I don’t think I’ve watched the Wild at Heart Lynchpin podcast yet… the last one I saw was Dune? These are fun to watch and they are going from the least lynchian film to the most!

Can I say… Dave Chappelle seemed a bit lazy… he didn’t do anything after weekend update?

Well, he did do a 30-minute monologue. Jeebus!

(I love Sarah Sherman)

Nearly so yeah… he did speak admiringly of Jimmy Carter, but then he said Trump should take from his example, and I’m like, UM… DUDE… the same guy who is demanding they raise the flags that are at half-staff for the guy who you want him to emulate!?! He talked mostly about the LA Fires… it wasn’t particular funny. And he only did 2 sketches, and a 3rd that was pre-recorded and had a Chappell show reference (the pimp character). Lazy…

Yeah, pretty much… Even the Guardian guy who reviews SNL mentioned the transphobic shit he’s been doing lately…

The message itself – the strongest statement on Palestine to appear on SNL yet – is unimpeachable, although it’s rich for Chappelle to dole out moral instruction considering he has spent the last several years publicly disparaging transgender people.

I’d rather try to survive this than deal with 4 more years DJT.

And I’d be grateful to do it!

Saw Kneecap last night (did you mention it to me, @Axolotl?)… what a great film! Visually interesting. The music is fantastic. I enjoyed how the rise of the band overlapped with the push for the recognition of Irish Gaelic in NI and how those two things intersected at times. I also appreciate how they illustrated the problems that came after the Good Friday accords… what happens to all those people who spent their lives in these movements, and then all of a sudden - peacetime. And the problems faced by the working classes in NI were not solved by the end of the conflict… Lastly, you get to see how identity as Republican or Loyalist still shapes people’s (especially young people’s, the so-called “peace” generation, I think) sense of self and their relationship to each other across those boundaries (via the weird relationship between Liam and Georgia).

It was very funny, to boot, even as it dealt with some serious issues. Lots and lots of drugs. I thought that the joke about Naoise’s dad was hilarious… “what do you call a former provo who teaches yoga? Bobby Sandals!” What made it funnier was the fact that the dad was played by Michael Fassbender… who also played Bobby Sands in Hunger.

Worth a watch!

Yeah, Chappelle has been on my NOPE list for awhile now. I usually watch clips of SNL every week, but I skipped this one. Dave Chappelle is not worth my time.
