Whatcha Watchin'?

I just watched Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead and I think they are up there with my favorite episodes to date. It cranked up the non-linear nature of the Doctor’s timeline to eleven, and I teared up when “Lee” tried to call out to Donna, but couldn’t because of his stutter. Now I’m really dreading the end of Tennant’s tenure. These episodes were just too good. Looking forward to more Prof. River Song, though.

Guilty.

I found it great that in their songs they switch to Irish any time the were slagging off the peelers (the RUC). That and the bilingual puns, like when he chooses to say tiocfaidh ár lá, and the band name Kneecap (ní ceap - no idea)

Oooh, yeah those are really good. And … well, I was going to say something but…spoilers!, as River Song would say.

 I was wondering about that very thing: did anyone refrain from saying anything because these are their favorite episodes? Are there others yet to come?

That’s the hope, right? I feel like such a doofus for only getting into the show now, but better late than never.

Well…this isn’t really a spoiler since River tells us this in those episodes, but that was not the first time she met the Doctor, even though it was the first time the Doctor met her. Which means you will see her again.

Yeah, I loved that foreshadowing. Also, I like looking up the actors on Wikipedia and I caught that Alex Kingston appeared in more than one year of the show (can’t expect a spoiler-free life with episodes from almost 20 years ago, anyhow). I’m very excited for River’s episodes in the future.

Not so fun info from the cast of these episodes: Talulah Riley had to get two divorces from Elon Musk. That poor woman. I hope she’s in a better place now.

Well she’s currently married to Thomas Brodie-Sangster, so it seems like she is in a better place.

I don’t know much about him beyond his Love Actually/Doctor Who work, but it’s got to be an improvement.

He seems like a decent human. I also liked him in Queen’s Gambit.

Just finished the fourth and final season of Halt and Catch Fire. I think it ended well, and I really came to care about the 5 central characters. An episode in which one of them has died and they all get together like an ad hoc family to go through his things, and then have dinner and appreciate each other in a new way, was one of the best tv episodes I’ve seen in a long time.

I also liked how they kept doing this thing with Naoise and his folks, and how they’d have scenes were one would speak Irish and the other english to make a point

I swear to god, no one else ever remembers this show (only 3 episodes aired in the US)…

Ooh ooh I remember it! And I’ve been looking for it- thanks for the link!

I’ve been trying to remember my life with Lynch - I’m sure the first one I saw was Elephant Man, I would have been 10 years old and saw it at the theater with the fam. I don’t remember the details of my first exposure to Eraserhead - so it was probably alone at night on home video. I know it was before Dune because I remember being psyched for Dune and seeing it in the theater. Blue Velvet I was there opening night (in my town) with bells on. Same for Wild at Heart, Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr.

Twin Peaks I was all about season one when it aired but I fell off season two. At that time I was very busy being at art college and being very poor.

All the movies I have watched SO MANY times at home with the exception of Inland Empire which I always fall asleep.

Last year I decided to rewatch TP so I could watch The Return but I fell off at season 2 again. I’m going to get through S2 now, and Inland Empire, damn it, and finally watch Return

At this very moment I’m watching a Law & Order episode from 1995 (!) on Crave in 4K. I am driven to distraction by the picture quality. I watched the show when it was new, the difference in picture quality is stark.

You watched it? What did you think? I remember finding it interesting, since his stories are so crazy, but I think he’d strike me now as a bit of an egocentric monologist. Wally plays a good foil, though.

I didn’t get to this in time for Christmas, but it’s been -13° here and we had a blast of snow so I started feeling Christmasy again and decided to give it a watch.

I just discovered it a couple years ago, and it pretty much instantly became one of my all-time favorites. It’s right up there with It’s A Wonderful Life (and according to IMDB, they were competing for which one got which director).

i enjoyed Golden Kamuy.
even given the television series treatment (a little too light hearted at times) the time period and historical references were unknown to me, and the show prompted me to look into a time and people of Japan’s northern island that i had never learned about.
