Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmee Schmitt. I love this crazy show!
Just re-watched Walking Dead up to where Negan shows up. The last season of the 100 just came up, so that’s next. Have yet to start house of cards or Kimmy Schmitt!
Just rewatched Ghostbusters (the new one) and it stands up very well. The jokes are still funny, the bits that irritated me the first time (mainly Kristen Wiig’s character) bother me less and Kate McKinnon is just a joy to watch.
Saw that with my trans friend. The scene where they shoot the ghostbuster ghost in the *** was really fun to watch with her.
I’ve recently watched Dirk Gently’s Holistice Detective Agency and absolutely loved it. Season 2 comes out in October.
I’m caught up on most of the well-regarded programs. It’s my only leisure activity. So, if anyone has any questions about a program, chances are I can answer them.
My currently airing personal faves are:
Twin Peaks
RuPaul’s Drag Race
Silicon Valley
Orphan Black
Better Call Saul
3 outta 5 aint a bad match!
I “totes” watch RPDR, O~Black and Better Call Saul.
Just finished watching the finale of the latter btw… wow.
I’ve been watching the latest season of Fargo with… curiosity?
I loved the previous two seasons to bits, and was eagerly awaiting this one. I’m 3/4 of the way through, and I genuinely don’t know where they’re going with this. I’m certainly hoping things start coming together and/or are revealed in a satisfying way, but compared to the other two seasons, this one seems more like an excuse to stunt-cast Ewen McGregor as twins.
That said, it’s worth watching for David Thewlis alone.
Agreed, but my three matches are:
Silicon Valley
Orphan Black
Better Call Saul
Add to that Fargo, American Gods, and Veep, and that pretty much sums up my current watchin’. I’m going to have a lot of free time in a week or so.
I’ve watched all but the finale. There’s a whole lot of thread-tying to do in one hour. As long as the David Thewlis character dies horribly, I’m good.
I’m only 3/4 of the way thru the series, so I’m not sure how much more awful he gets, but it was kind of fascinating watching it with friends; he went from “what a wonderfully creepy slimy villain!” to “oh, fuck that guy, to the woodchipper with him” when he started referring to Jews as animals.
I have not been watching much, because I don’t have a lot of video time.
Kids and I have been watching Doctor Who (current), Knights of Sidonia, and now The Maxx. We might get back into Blake’s 7 and/or Sapphire and Steel over the next few days.
Lately I have watched Sense8 season 2, which I thought was shaky in spots but mostly brilliant. And like many others I am sure, a bit gutted that it was cancelled right after release.
Second season of Dark Matter, which was more a sort of guilty pleasure in that it was entertaining at times, but often clichéd at the start and the writing sometimes approached terrible. I like the sets and the score. It’s like a throwback to something cheesy from 20-30 years ago, but with better production values.
Watched American Gods, which I thought was amazing. I had never read the novel, didn’t know anything about it. Eagerly awaiting Analee Newitz’s ep8 Decrypted podcast at Ars Technica. Those have some great discussions and insights about the series, and interviews with some of the people involved.
Binge-watched Orphan Black season 4, just prior to season 5. I was happy that it felt cohesive, after the third seemed IMO to be unsure, hinting at several disparate story directions.
Going to probably make some time to watch soon:
Leftovers s3, Twin Peaks, Archer s8, Handmaid’s Tale
I watched the first two episodes this morning (yea, insomnia!) That got a serious WTF from me at first, but when I somehow placed where it was from, I cracked up. As a seriously meta-corny move, they are using the theme song to Perfect Strangers!
There was a bit of brief background worldbuilding in IIRC the second season it was in the media that against all odds, all four main cast members of Perfect Strangers had “departed”. BUT it was revealed that Mark Linn-Baker had faked his departure and was hiding out with an assumed identity in Mexico or Belize, because he was distraught that the rest of the cast were taken, but not him. And as of the second episode of this season, this appears to actually be a major plot point.
I can respect their choice to use the song, but the song itself I think is terrible. The second season’s use of “Let the Mystery Be” I think was perfect both for the in-universe story of loss, as well as a meta-commentary addressing criticism of the show as a “mystery box” of deliberate obfuscation rather than a sort of magical realist character study.
ETA: Apparently each episode of S3 has its own intro theme. Ep 3 has a jamming swing cover of Personal Jesus.
This was a great comic and the show was pretty good as well.
Yeah, the ouch was meant to be implied; Saul aka Jimmy’s world is part of the Breaking Bad universe, after all.
Chuch McGill, what a piece of work.
And M. McKean is an AMAZING actor…
I have not, nor have I seen the series; but now it’s on my list…
I think Chuck was a brilliant character. Love the nuance of their relationship. Feels like real brothers. They are both such assholes in their own way. Chuck was one of the more nuance mental illness portrayals on TV, too, though his symptoms are over the top and obvious, in more subtle ways he is fully functioning, so smart, so self-protective, not quite connecting but not seeing that in himself, and that is so true of my own experience with it all.
Agreed; I always knew McKean was a good actor, but the character of Charles McGill really showcased his talent.
I also concur that his portrayal of a person afflicted with mental illness was extremely well done; as monstrous as he often was, I still sympathized with Chuck… even when I didn’t want to.
Next, it’s true both brothers have a huge ‘asshole streak’, but Chuck’s pathological resentment of his sibling was just stunning in its toxicity, from withholding the info that their mother called out for Jimmy on her deathbed, to committing suicide after he didn’t get his way with Howard and the law firm; knowing full well that his intentionally hurtful final words to Jimmy would probably haunt him for the rest of Jimmy’s life.
I mean, I can’t stand my own sister based upon past emotional baggage… but that’s a level of animosity amongst siblings that’s just unfathomable to me.
i watched the first two episodes and then got sidetracked, but i was really rather liking it. it’s just so fun to see people bring douglas adams’s ideas to life.
Somehow I missed your post; I thoroughly enjoyed it too.
finally got around to both Deadpool and Logan. Both were great, especially Logan. Sir Pat Stew broke my heart… what a wonderful actor.
