Whatchya Workin' On, O Creatives?

I think they look neat. if I was doing it I wouldn’t have done glitter but it actually looks pretty good

If I wanted to do it right, that’s 22 cedar boards, 16’ long. At $52/piece, that’s $1144. Then there’s getting rid of the old boards, which are mostly good. I just can’t justify it. So I do the work…

yeah, materials are insane, especially these days

She’s an old soul! That design reminds me of my sister’s godmother’s resin hobby for about two years in the late 60s to very early 70s. She was so into resin making and made coasters similar to those, also with glitter. Kid Kii is very retro and trendy. :star_struck:

And @noahdjango I’ll be sure to tell her that our work has garnered some admirers!

mum has been very into resin casting ATM. and yes, she has also been doing the glitter.
while some of the stuff has been clever and cool, even useful in the case of small planters for little succulents, i have questions about some of her designs, but!
one does not question genius.

seems resin casting is quite a thing right now, so have you seen or heard of the YouTube channel of Evan and Katelyn ? some Austinites into the whole thing?
they did an episode with Adam Savage where they introduced some craaazy stuff one can do with resin! my favorite was adding tungsten powder to resin to make it heavy, very dense, and semi-metallic:

I had not! I will definitely watch it. We also got a kit that makes resin smiley face keychains. It came with some tinted mica powder that had some very cool effects. No idea what the kid did with the finished products tho, so no pictures.

cool!
definitely watch the one with Adam Savage, first. that one really expands the creative and exploratory uses of the medium.

I am currently doing an epoxy casting experiment in my pen turning. I took all the little scraps and bits that would otherwise get composted and embedded them in a 9"x6" block. After in cures i will cut it out into pen blanks and see what come out. I’m calling them chaos blanks. I will post when i have something to show!

I went to a pen show with a friend a number of years ago. It was really fabulous. There were lots of different methods of making them by small companies. And then there were the $10,000 pens with gold maybe? I can’t recall.

That takes me back! I used casting resin to make a lake for a model railroad layout I was building when I was a teenager. I put a Mercedes at the bottom of the lake. That stuff really smells for a day or two. And I had to do it layers so it would cure reliably.

I followed the plan in this book:

E&K are great, i’ve been watching their stuff for years. You can pick any video at random from them and it’ll be worth your time. Some particularly noteworthy ones would be

The short answer is no.
The coasters look good as they are. Rather fetching, actually.

1) Yes, I know glitter is borderline.

H0 - Half the size, double the fun!

Agreed, but now I’m thinking it would be a good idea to encapsulate glitter in resin.

All of it.

Basically, modify some of the protocols on how to safely handle asbestos.

ok, so I wanted a dedicated multi tool for my fast bike, where I actually take weight into consideration. I went through all the folding multi tools that had a couple allen wrenches and screwdrivers and nothing else, then I picked out the one that weighed the least.

simple, right?

then the first time I used it, I was in the field, trying to use the biggest 6mm wrench to lower my stem a little and I realized: the low weight meant small size which meant I had absolutely no leverage. I unfolded the tools on the other end and barely got it to budge, and it cut into my hand uncomfortably.

so I built this stupid thing.

even with the material I removed, it still weighs about half what the tool weighs. so I kind of boned myself, I could have gotten a heavier tool to begin with that was actually long enough and it might have weighed the same or less than this setup.

live and learn.

at least I can use it as a case to protect it from tearing up the inside of my bag and ditch the nylon fabric case it came with.

quibbling about grams is a bit silly. it really bit me on the ass, in a way. but it was kind of fun to build and it feels better in the hand than any multi tool.

Looks a lot cooler too!

And you can use it as a flute.

And you can keep your weed in there!

Slowly making my way through the volumes of the mixes you’ve put together. I do have to say that while i’m not familiar with the group Sparks, their song Change reminds me a hell of a lot with The Killers, and now i’m wishing for someone to mash Sparks + The Killers
