Who Sang it Better?

Dr. Hook makes me think of the songwriter – Shel Silverstein – and how creepy that guy was about women.

So even though it’s the version I knew, which is usually what would tip the scale, I totally agree with you that only Faithfull makes the song worth hearing.

I mean, I had to vote Sisters (prefer the version from Some Girls Wander, myself) but that is a damn good cover - never heard it before but it’s definitely going onto my playlist :metal:

Thought of another good one. I honestly am conflicted.

That Nazareth video is the most perfect 70’s video I have ever seen.

Does anyone actually prefer Kristofferson’s version of any song? I remember once attempting to quickly teach a performer how to sing a bit of the chorus of “Me and Bobby McGee” when I realized to my horror that I was imitating the KK version. So, I followed up my performance with “Do it like that, but without the hoarseness and about five times the energy.”

Famous songs from the late 60’s (and @ChickieD was surprised no one had suggested Me and Bobby McGee :open_mouth: ) :

This one is a bit strange: the song was written by the cover band. Mike Nesmith actually wrote this one for Butterfield’s band, who released it first.

And one more really famous one, while I remember:

  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Derek and the Dominos
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn

Edit: The ironic thing is that Vaughn’s guitar did all the singing, but you can’t stack up covers of this song without his.

Another famous song form the late 60s: Black Magic Woman

Fleetwood Mac
The original, lesser known version. Short and punchy.

Santana
The more famous version. A lot smoother than the original, but does that make it better?
