I’m late to the convo, but on the topic of gendered insults, I felt the same way (albeit to a lesser degree) about people using “douche” and “douchebag,” as an insult.
Mainly because of all the bs around marketing of douches to women, as if there’s something inherently unclean about our gender.

Thanks for the background on this creep, but even with minimal current support / power he was able to make headlines sharing his views. That’s how it starts. IIRC, Gibson still has a career so folks who believe terrible behavior will cause anyone to be “canceled” have nothing to worry about. Women do something to worry about when pols feel comfortable promoting policies like this, because

We need to do better than “it’s just boys bein’ boys”, honestly… Especially now. We need to always point out how misogyny is wrong and is hurtful to all women. And it should be not be acceptable, just because it exists.
