He has no understanding of human, civil, or national rights. It would be pathetic if it weren’t so dangerous.

“I think it’s highly unlikely that the U.S. moves to terminate the pope’s citizenship,” Spiro said.

Yeah, I don’t. If only because at some point he’ll criticize Trump just a little too much, and the orange baby will throw a tantrum.

On the shoe beer drinking guy “McGinn told local media he did it to show there were normal people in parliament ”

Dude: that is not normal.

Also ruins both the beer and the shoe.

I hope he does. It would be quite the spectacle.

Put Vance and half the Supreme Court in a bind.

The speculation has been that the current regime in the US was a big part of his election.

I mean they did send in JD Nonce to kill the last guy.

So far, he seems much too kind for them.

And didn’t he back door call Vance out?

Not that any Pope is likely to be great for my - and others - people. But he does seem to have taken caring for the poor more seriously than any Trumper.

Edit:

Nope. It was a direct call out.

Also - Vance didn’t kiss his ring when he met him; like a good Catholic is supposed to.

You know; I’d really like to see a brawl between the Swiss Guard and the Secret Service.

Excommunication!!!

You could sell that on pay-per-view!

Vance is a prominent figure who promotes actually heretical views, both contrary to Catholic teachings and ultimately harmful to Catholics. I honestly don’t know who excommunication is for if not someone like him.

I suspect that it’s a punishment that they don’t like using much anymore, as it was certainly a tool they used and misused over the centuries… I don’t know what it takes to get yourself excommunicated these days, though.

I should have left the words “deal with” the current regime.

He’s an American but he isn’t particularly connected to the American Catholic Church which seems to often be pretty conservative. He’s mixed race and spent most of his church career in the global south where issues like poverty are central to the church.

And yes, I think he let Nonce know early that he isn’t to be called to heel. Soft power can still be power.

Setting up an alternative church. Sometimes. But not always and they let you back too.

So all those right wing dipshits who hated Vatican 2 (electric boogaloo) have been excommunicated? Isn’t that essentially what they did?

These guys…

Who cares? He’ll have a diplomatic passport until the end of his life, and probably even has or at least qualifies for Peruvian citizenship, too

The 21St Century looks like schism, episcopal communion, ordination of women, not hating LGBTQ people as the biggies.

He has Peruvian citizenship.

There you go. I doubt he would lose any sleep about losing his US passport

His family is here and he lived much of his life here. I’m sure he would be upset to not be able to return.

As far as I know some have, Lots haven’t of course and you’d need to get up in their face to be even noticed.
