Pretty sure there was a movie about this in the 80s. Well⌠several, actually.
Oh, fuckety-fuck-fuck-fuckety-fuck-bucketâŚ
Artificial intelligence systems capable of feelings or self-awareness are at risk of being harmed if the technology is developed irresponsibly, according to an open letter signed by AI practitioners and thinkers including Sir Stephen Fry.
More than 100 experts have put forward five principles for conducting responsible research into AI consciousness, as rapid advances raise concerns that such systems could be considered sentient.
The principles include prioritising research on understanding and assessing consciousness in AIs, in order to prevent âmistreatment and sufferingâ.
Do I want to know how many of these same experts have been promoting flawed AI systems with little to no concern about the way they cause human mistreatment and suffering? No, I do not. At this point, Iâm more worried about people likely to be victimized by systems designed by folks who oppress members of marginalized groups.
The paper, published in the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, also warned that a mistaken belief that AI systems are already conscious could lead to a waste of political energy as misguided efforts are made to promote their welfare.

Tip:
Check your system language and country settings. Then change the language choice in âSiri and Apple Intelligenceâ to some other language.
If theyâre differentâand English (US) / English (Canadian) (or UK) are sufficiently differentâApple Intelligence will refuse to work.
This settings mismatch is tied to your Apple ID, carries over across all your macOS and iOS devices, and persists across OS updates (so far).
Great tip. Thanks!
Theyâre glorified chatbots, electronic parrots. Theyâre so far from achieving sentience that this is an issue to be concerned about centuries from now, or possibly never. Whoever decided to recklessly call them AI, a term absolutely guaranteed to misrepresent them and their abilities, has a lot to answer for.
The paper, published in the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, also warned that a mistaken belief that AI systems are already conscious could lead to a waste of political energy as misguided efforts are made to promote their welfare.
Iâm sure it wasnât the intention, but their paper and the mediaâs reporting on it will just spread that mistaken belief further, even if the paper itself acknowledges that weâre not there yet. Most people are not going to understand that this is a hypothetical sci-fi âwhat ifâ question and not something happening right now or a year from now.
I canât believe it: there is actually an unmitigated GOOD use for AI!
Then change the language choice
Pretty much anything other than English (Neutral Californian) confuses them.
The company worked with Jim Browning, a âscam baiterâ who posts videos of himself wasting the time of criminals, to plant phone numbers on websites where they were likely to be found by fraudsters hoping to scam people
Jim Browning has some excellent videos on the YouTubes. Not content with wasting scammerâs time he has been able to get scam rings shut down.
call me âunslop-timisticâ but i donât think this will be the last time this happens
Iâm certain that the scammers are training AI models themselves to do their job for them. Soon we will have AIs talking to AIs in a completely closed loop. Just using electricity for nothing
I donât know who this writer is, and it sounds pretty sci-fi, but then, so did the idea of the richest person on earth taking over US data and financial systems.
No, thatâs not science fiction, and itâs not me going paranoid crazy. Itâs what Musk is planning to do. And fast.
Musk has been building giant AI programs and massive AI computing centers for years now. He just finished building Colossus in Tennessee, the worldâs largest AI computing center. Colossus was just launched in September 2024. Itâs a part of Muskâs xAI company, which he intends to use to completely revamp how the federal government works. All these reductions in the federal workforce and bureaucracy are a prelude to putting the entire government in the hands of his AI company, and other subcontractors.
This is technofascism on a massive scale. Musk intends to make trillions from this, and probably give Trump a piece of the pie. Would that be illegal? Sure, but Trump canât be prosecuted for this, thanks to the Supreme Courtâs rulings. He has immunity even to charges of bribery.
I think this explains Muskâs huge role in Trumpâs government, and his focus on DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), which by executive order has been given immense power across the government at every level.
Trump could never do any of this on his own, much less even think of it. But Musk has dreamed of this for decades, and he has convinced Trump to back it to the hilt.
In the next few months, were going to see it happen. It wonât be noticed at first, because itâs quite complex and our journalists and media are cowered by fear and narrowness of vision. But itâs already happening. And this explains the outer confusion as to what Trump is planning, what his end game is. Turns out itâs not Trumpâs end game, itâs Muskâs. And Musk is way ahead of everyone on this.
Call me crazy if you like, but this is whatâs really happening behind the scenes. Trump will say all kinds of crazy shit to distract from it, do crazy things as well, but this is the real program. Donât get caught up in all the cruelty and threats and BS being thrown about. Thatâs bad enough, but itâs not the real point.
Turning the government of the United States into a technofascist AI kleptocracy that enriches the investor class even more is the point. And this is why all the techno-oligarchs like Bezos and Zuckerberg and Ellison are all now gung-ho Trumpers. They will get even richer themselves through the AI government programs Musk will oversee.
Trump himself is just a distraction from the real powers remaking our country. A simple pawn enriching himself in the process of turning democracy into a computer algorithm controlled by the techno-oligarchs.
Donât say you werenât warned.
See, thatâs the thing⌠is he? It might very well BE his plan, but we all see how well AI is working in the real worldâŚ
Even if this is âthe planâ, I think that the cruelty is ALSO the plan.
the âfascistâ is the key term there - the cruelty remains the point, not just the enriching the techno-oligarchs.
So, I donât think heâs wrong entirely, but I just donât think that âMusk is aheadâ of shit. This might be his plan, but weâve seen how well AI works. They are imagining a thing that does not exist, and likely never will.
