Oh. Well, that’s not in the original. >whine<
Do anarchists and libertarians realize that those systems will just let bullies and psychopaths take charge? (Not that all other systems seem to allow that too.)

Well

  1. all systems, if left to be gamed, will eventually get controlled by people aware of gaming the system
  2. the original meme seems to be designed to get people the impression there is no good alternative, which is something I hate - it seems to instill a defeatist attitude on people: why fight if the best option we have is maintain the status quo?.
  3. Not saying Anarchism is necessarily the alternative (I would be leftist except I don’t think guns or authoritarianism are exactly cool), but I though it was funny to have them outside the venn diagram and just chilling out while the others seem to whine and fight about each other

Anarchists do and they’re actually all about building organizations to keep oppressors from taking charge, they just insist they be voluntary. Libertarians in the now-popular sense of anarcho-capitalists? Maybe, but if so they think the bullies and psychopaths deserve it.

Anarchists probably do, and they have ways of thinking these things through… for libertarians it’s part of the appeal.

You’re not obliged to like guns, but there’s plenty of leftist philosophies that are anti-authoritarian. Thing is, it seems like leftists often argue about what is and isn’t part of any particular -ism (and wow, those fights can get vicious) so it can be hard to get a clear picture of what it’s all about.

I’m not the person to explain it, I’m still figuring it out myself. Should we start a thread for reccs of good source material?

Edit to add: if anybody wants it, I started this: Leftist info, media and agitprop: recommendations

Those are originally the same thing. Right-libertarians just stole it.

One gratifying aspect of our rise to some prominence is that, for the first time in my memory, we, ‘our side,’ had captured a crucial word from the enemy . . . ‘Libertarians’ . . . had long been simply a polite word for left-wing anarchists, that is for anti-private property anarchists, either of the communist or syndicalist variety. But now we had taken it over…

What I meant is “i don’t feel identified on the leftists of that venn diagram”.
The thread seems a good idea

I’ll be 60 in a few months (I know, I know, I don’t look a day over 72) and I’ve been a-dithering as to what to do with the rest of my days once this house is sold and I have to move on.

Suddenly I have inspiration.
Thanks, @Abe_the_honest

Well, to reinforce your inspiration…

I was about to upload this for @chgoliz, who usually is willing to suffer my endless practice runs in the hopes some day they will sound good

It does not contain penguins, sorry. But you may find it interesting nonetheless.

I’m just a few years behind you, and I just started piano lessons this month. I took over Kiddo’s time slot with her wonderful teacher, and while I know it’s doubtful that I will ever achieve “good”, I’m pretty excited. Those eyes/brain/fingers connections are working hard! And it’s interesting to see how my semi ambidextrous brain processes all this.

Oh, Wow!
I recognised the song from the very first bar.
A thoroughly excellent take, thanks for posting that.

(I played the All About Eve version to death).
