we (mum and I) voted yes on the recreational cannabis amendment in florida.
I’m already a medical user, so it is really for the principal of the matter. cannabis should be legal, everywhere. and it pisses ron desantis off to no end!
My teevee says early exit polls show concern for democracy as the highest priority - over the economy - 35% to 33%.
That bodes well. Though it doesn’t guarantee anything.
This was so much fun, Walz rally in Downtown Detroit
We got there early because we had no idea what to expect. Security was tight but not crazy. They had actual TSA agents conducting the searches so it went pretty fast. Every one of the campaign workers was polite and very helpful. Standing in line was fun talking with a very diverse bunch of people.
A crap ton of very clean porta potties, a ton of Secret Service and Homeland Security agents and a bunch of food trucks. A very professional production.
It poured rain at several points in the evening but we were prepared with rain coats. Several of the speakers gave their speech in the rain.
We’ve seen the Detroit Youth Choir before, what an amazing group of kids. Funny thing(compared to the other guy and his mic), during their performance the soloists mics cut out but the kids did not miss a beat, they kept right on singing while the sound guys did their best to get the mics going. Instead of threatening the sound guys they just carried on and finished the song.
They got the mics working again so the kids just started from the top. Real pros.
Bon Jovi came out and said some words then did a song with War & Treaty, an awesome husband and wife duo from Michigan. Then he introduced special guest Micheal Stipe and they belted out an R.E.M. song. Bon Jovi came back out after Walz for another tune, I think it was being simulcast for the campaign.
Around 9 pm, they cut to a live feed of Walz in Wisconsin, Huh? This is going to be a late night. I talked to one of the campaign workers who shared a text with me from their team. Walz would be there by 10. No way.
Way. He finished his Wisconsin speech at 9, he showed up in Detroit less than an hour later. How the hell he did that is some sort of magic. His speech was great. His wife’s speech was also good.
The other bonus was Gretchen Whitmer showed up to introduce Walz. Her second in charge, Garlin Gilchrist, also gave a rousing speech. I really hope he makes it to governor in a couple years.
Our daughter’s invite got her right up front so she got to watch some of the behind the scenes stuff.
All in all a very fun evening but way past my bedtime, hopefully it all pays off.
If the dumbass era ends tonight, then his books could be a lot less fashionable and harder to sell.
A noble goal all by itself. I regularly get compliments on my “Ron Desantis is a Fascist” t-shirt… and I’m in Colorado.
According to the criminal complaint, Nicholas Wimbish, 25, of Milledgeville, Georgia, was serving as a poll worker at the Jones County Elections Office on Oct. 16 when he allegedly had a verbal altercation with a voter. Later that evening, Wimbish conducted online research to determine what information about himself would be publicly available. The following day, Wimbish mailed a letter addressed to the Jones County Elections Superintendent, purportedly from a “Jones County Voter.”
The letter was allegedly drafted to make it appear as if it came from the voter, such as by stating that Wimbish had “give[n] me hell” and that Wimbish was “conspiring votes” and “distracting voters from concentrating.” The letter threatened that Wimbish and others “should look over their shoulder,” that “I know where they go,” that “I know where they all live because I found home voting addresses for all them,” and that the “young men will get beatdown if they fight me” and “will get the treason punishment by firing squad if they fight back.” Further, the letter threatened to “rage rape” the “ladies” and warned them to “watch every move they make and look over their shoulder.” The letter concluded with a handwritten note, “PS boom toy in early vote place, cigar burning, be safe.”
All the crazy is coming out to play, it seems.
Our elementary school was a polling place (in the 1980s) and they didn’t close school, but we did have to eat lunch outside on those days because voting was in the cafeteria. It was California so it was chilly but not ridiculously cold.
Today I voted in a church, which I’m not a fan of, but city hall is just too small to accommodate voting anymore.

Highlights:
Half of the U.S., as well as the District of Columbia, have automatic recounts. Here’s what triggers them, according to the Associated Press and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL):
Alabama: Margin of less than 0.5%
Alaska: Tied race
Arizona: Margin of 0.5% or less
Colorado: Margin of 0.5% or less
Connecticut: Tied race or margin less than 0.5%, but not more than 2,000 votes
Delaware: The smaller of a 0.5% margin or less or fewer than 1,000 votes
District of Columbia: Margin of less than 1%
Florida: Margin of 0.5%
Hawaii: Margin of 100 or fewer votes, or 0.25%, whichever is larger
Kentucky: Margin of 0.5% or less
Michigan: Margin of 2,000 votes or less between the top two candidates
Montana: Tied race
New Mexico: Margin of less than 0.25%
North Dakota: Margin of 0.5% or less of the highest vote cast for that office
Ohio: Margin of less than 0.25%
Oregon: Tied race, or margin of no more than 0.2% of total votes
Pennsylvania: Margin of 0.5%
South Carolina: Margin less than 1%
South Dakota: Tied race
Texas: Tied race
Utah: Tied race
Vermont: Tied race
Washington: Margin of less than 2,000 votes and less than 0.5% of total votes
Wyoming: Margin is less than 1%
Uh ohs, there’s cheating afoot.
And what I find funny is all the republicans that did everything in their power to make voting harder and more complicated are begging their supporters to stay in those long lines and vote.
Even tucks is begging people to stay in line.
What does “tied race” mean? It seems remarkably unlikely that any race will be tied except in small areas.
Here it is almost midnight and I have to work tomorrow. That is really frustrating.
We dropped our ballots off in our Township dropbox so no stickers.
But our awesome daughter got us stickers from her clerk’s office.
We got a Michigan wolf.
I’ve been telling the tv for weeks now, “I already voted! Quit showing me these GD ads!”
I was thinking the same. As a numbers professional, that looks like a loophole you could drive a truck through.
In case anyone you actually know gets one of those postcards warning registered Democratic voters that now they will have to house and feed immigrants, some useful info:
The barcode stamp at the top means this can be tracked.
Report to your postal inspector - seriously. They don’t f around. It may sound like a joke - it is not. Don’t ever f with mail.

American election coverage is infuriating.
Counting votes is not a race, dammit. Just tell us what you know.
