Elections 2023-2024

Oh, I know, and as you and @LurksNoMore said, to treat their victims as cruelly as possible.

But this needs to be pointed out as often as possible. We need reporters with ovs* who will ask her this question in a press conference.

Fat chance of that, says my cynical side. They’ll all be too afraid of getting sent to one of the Siberia-style re-education gulags that Tromp’s going to set up when the US annexes Canada.

I didn’t realize I was only allowed to post full solutions for all our problems… Sorry, I’ll do better next time… Here I was mistakenly thinking that this was a thread for posting shit about the election that just happened, rather than giving everyone full solutions to all our ills.

Need a puke emoji. But i suspect it would get completely worn out over the next few months.

Although Trump was far from perfect, many supporters said, his second term would hopefully lead to more peace globally, economic stability and an improvement to their financial situation, more secure borders, and a return to meritocracy and “family values”.

I maintain that most of these answers are post hoc cover for racism and misogyny. When the Taliban congratulates us for making the right decision, we really need to consider the possibility that we have well and truly screwed up.

I agree with that…

Yep.

I posted a story about it above… :woman_shrugging:

I don’t know about how many of her social media followers may have voted for Trump but AOC (and New York Democrats as a whole) have lost a pretty significant amount of their vote share since 4 years ago. In 2020 AOC won her district with 71.6% of the vote. Right now with most of the 2024 votes counted she’s on track to have won about 68.9% of the vote. Not bad, but still a drop, although less of a decline than Democrats overall in the state. Biden won NY 61% to 38% (a 23 point margin) while Harris won about 56% to 44% (a 12 point margin).

I don’t have any better explanation for that shift than anyone else but working to understand it better is an appropriate response for Democratic politicians like AOC if they want to turn the situation around.

Ditto; 45 presented NOTHING in the way of policies or plans.

He ran on an campaign of hatred, and anyone who voted for him voted for hate.

Seems like her declining share of the vote is likely just a consequence of the down-ballot effect rather than any of her policies in particular.

That’s a win that anyone would be proud of. And given the top of the ticket lost - a drop is to be expected.

But everything that went wrong is always solely the fault of the Dems, don’t you know that by now?

Same story here in VA. We stayed blue, but by about half the margin of last time. Our off-off year elections next year should be interesting, and an early indicator for 2026. I can only hope we can shake off the grief and mourning and turn it t anger by then…

That’s wild. It’s like they’d never seen or heard of the guy before.

Every last one of those things will not happen. :frowning:

Sure, she did quite well considering. But given that she maintained most of her vote share while New York (and New York City especially) had a pretty dramatic change in their vote share going to Trump that almost certainly means that a non-trivial number of her supporters ended up voting for the guy. I applaud her effort to reach out and try to understand that phenominon of split-ticket voters better, because it’s something that we need to do.

Especially the progressive/lefty ones. Who won their seats by a huge margin.

Not the many centrists who lost. Losing is apparently better than being reelected by fewer votes.

How many % fewer votes did John Tester lose since his last election?

Obviously, not worthy of discussion.

How many votes did Rueben Gallegos win by?

Why did Delaware dems lose the Governor, Senate and House elections- they didn’t- with two black women and a trans woman on the ticket.

Likewise, how did OR House district 5 flip to Dem with a progressive Black woman as candidate over a MAGA incumbent?
