Well, we clearly don’t need trained professionals in politics, law enforcement, medicine, or science in general, so why bother for journalism?
IKR? Next they’ll start reducing the content until nothing is left except one page full of some version of “All is well.”

Putting this here because of how hard I had to search for it, since the story was buried:

This is a real question posed to The New York Times Ethicist
And their answer was not what some might call… ethical!!!

For when being a regular landlord isn’t getting you sent to hell fast enough
"But you see, I didn’t build the camp. I just sold them the barbed wire for the top of the fence."
But…
That is 100% a factual and correct statement, so this is some bullshit.
So the moment someone does some actual journalism, ABC News suspends them?
Sounds about right.
Yesterday, the LAPD released a statement calling the protests peaceful. They had no reason to do that, except that it’s true. Meanwhile, the administration is planting instigators and inflaming tensions to justify its own lawless actions. No one, not even Trump, gets to trample the Constitution.
This morning, Trump thanked the National Guard for handling protests they weren’t even present for. That’s how far they’ll go to sell the lie. Trump wants this fight, not to keep peace, but to justify using the military against Americans. A textbook authoritarian move.
The role of the press is to criminalize all legitimate protests and then twenty years later write about how important they were.
