We’re some of the few people I think that has never really stopped buying physical media for most of our music and lots of TV/film viewing… we do have netflix, but that’s all… For music, we buy CDs and digitize to listen on our phones in my car (which is the one that is driven the most).
Same here… and always saved in WAV format. Even then, in our case 3000+ songs and such fit easily on a 128gb stick. (Talk about ‘mass media’.) A whole lot of miles pass before we need to jam in the next stick.
I got in on the streaming pretty early, but lately I’ve found myself buying more and more physical media. Streaming is so fragmented and rights are moving around constantly, so you never know when/if/where something is going to be available.
Streaming has been so successful everyone wants a piece of the pie, but in doing so they’ve fragmented everything so much it’s just too much of a hassle to deal with anymore. Once we move I’m setting up a media server.
I still have a CD and cassette player in my car, which saves me a step. For road trips, I have cases that hold about 12 CDs each, so I can jump around between genres and tracks along the way. It also gives me backup in case local radio stations start getting on my nerves.
“Censorship” in the sense of calling out blatant lies. I fail to see how that is censorship. It’s not stopping you from saying, just telling the truth about what is being said. But fascists hate truth. And here we are.
Indeed. Crying “Censorship!” when someone points out that they’re wrong, or even just disagrees with them, is a deliberate strategy. “I’m being oppressed, you’re my oppressor, you’re a monster, you deserve a horrible death,” etc.
We had to buy a new car (no cd player, of course) and the only way to use my own music is to load up on my phone (way too many files/songs). The people all looked at me weird when I told them that there’s been a significant amount of people (even young’uns) who do NOT like to use a streaming service and who are back to buying cds and vinyl.
My VW had a sd card and has worked perfectly since the day I bought the car in 2013. However, I prefer cds for concept albums (e.g., Pink Floyd or The Who). We have a road trip coming up and I have to figure out a way of taking my digital copies on the road without using my phone.
iPod?
I do have an iPod of music I load from iTunes in the way back times. It was one of the first gens and has very little storage and there’s no more room.
“It means we’re going to catch less bad stuff, but we’ll also reduce the number of innocent people’s posts and accounts that we accidentally take down,” he [Zuckerberg] said.

All news is Fox News now.
Just came here to post the same story. Unbelievable. Would have thought the Root would do better.
IIrc, it’s owned by WaPo/Bezos, so…
I like the way this reply sums it up.
ETA:
The WaPo was bought by Bezos’ Nash Holdings in 2013. G/O Media bought the Root from Gizmodo in 2019, along with a few others. G/O is owned by Great Hill Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. After that, the trail goes a bit cold; paywall after paywall for info on Great Hill Partners. Bezos could have a finger in the Great Hill pie, but I can’t easily tell. Whether Bezos owns it or some private equity firm: neither is great news. As we know.
Is anyone else sick of the media’s coverage of Trump’s talk about annexing/buying Canada/Greenland/Panama Canal? None of these things are going to happen. They’re too ridiculous to warrant any coverage. It’s just meant to distract the media from real coverage of Trump, and it’s driving me crazy! It’s all anyone wants to talk about. He might as well be talking about harvesting cheese from the moon.
He probably thinks Wallace and Gromit was a documentary.
