Maybe the largely non-Christian circles in which I run have clouded my vision a bit, but also that I thought it was the case that church membership in the US has long been declining.

Isn’t a lot of that church decline the “spiritual, not religious”, which really doesn’t affect things like that belief. People have just seem to have gotten so much more gullible lately (see: antivax).

I have a little bit of the opposite of you, since I’m in TX. Most of my personal circle is non-Christian, but that’s more of a filter on my part, and it’s really obvious that it is, at least to me.
