We have some heart-breaking news to share: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II will be leaving the GOG store on December 13th, 2024.
Going forward, even if a game is no longer available for sale on GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program, it will continue to be maintained and updated by us, ensuring it remains compatible with modern and future systems.
I’m a little curious how the legalities and logistics work of updating an old game that the owner has asked be removed from their store, but it looks like we’ll find out.
There’s a $2-off discount code in the article on the purchase of a bundle with both games, bringing the pair down to about $13 USD.
I don’t think Blizzard has any say about DOSBox patches.
Thank you for the notice!
I thought I already had these, but it turns out I had only stuck them in my wishlist to buy later. I had so much fun with these games back in the 90s.
So I haven’t posted here (or anywhere for that matter) for quite some time, but still lurking around, currently trying to do unorthodox things to my new Steam Deck.
Picked up a Humble Bundle which has a few duplicates I already own, so Steam keys for those games are below - please post if you take one & I’ll cross it out.
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
AW4FB-V0VLJ-X4H9F change the first letter to H
Monkey Island 2: Special Edition
AJW8L-90YFI-560GX change the first letter to J
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
AHJ5M-H5TWY-W8CKI change the first letter to H
Star Wars Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy
AWA50-3YCPH-IWNQD change the first letter to H
Star Wars Republic Commando
A4XEA-6VTC0-HWRNV change the first letter to I
Enjoy! A generous soul here gifted me something on Steam or GOG way back in the day, so I’ll belatedly pass that on.
----edit–
Found a few more I have on Humble, as below:
Limbo
APD0X-F0E3I-ZW23H change the first letter to N
Psychonauts (excellent)
ABTJK-FWA54-64WMZ change the first letter to X
Psychonauts on GOG.com
ANRT005D8D74D3C896 change the first letter to B
Those ones are older so might have expired? Who knows…
----edit 2 - cunningly encrypted the keys following @the_borderer 's good suggestion
Humble Bundle keys don’t expire unless they have an explicit expiry date.
However, I wouldn’t put keys up in a public space. There are bots that will put them up for sale on grey market key sites before anyone can use them. I just assume that bots know about here by default as a matter of personal safety.
Also if anyone ever wants to play the game Raft on Steam sometime i’m down for some seananigans.
Little Kitty Big City is an awesome game to relax to.
Well, that is… just a bit different from previous ones. At least it doesn’t think I played tons of pinball this time for whatever reason, but I don’t know what turn-based tactics games it thinks I played.
The “base building” was clearly Satisfactory, though.
Also, last couple of games from a gifted Humble Bundle:
I’ve found this one to be pretty interesting story-wise, but gameplay was… occasionally like a set of quicktime events, and annoyingly didn’t always make clear what the options were. Several sticking points felt like I just didn’t manage to read the developer’s mind and realize something was available that hadn’t previously been made clear and wasn’t otherwise called out. In its defense, it is definitely not a gameplay-heavy game, it’s very much a linear narrative with occasional puzzles.
Feels a lot like Portal but with a twist, even down to some of the music giving me deja vu. Environmental puzzles you solve with time rather than dimensional moves, and an interesting story… just don’t try to think too deeply about the underlying premise. Definitely not as long as the Portal games and has some rough edges, but well executed.
This was the year I tried Dirt 5, Dirt Rally 2.0, Star Trucker, and Teardown. Last few days I’ve been playing Burnout Paradise. So it seems fairly accurate.
Here’s my recap for the year:
Here are a few standout games that I played this year and recommend:
This is a cute and cozy puzzle game that isn’t too hard, but is very satisfying.
This one seems intriguing, but I haven’t played far enough into it to get how dark it gets.
Surely you’ve heard of this by now. You should be in one of three states:
- You’ve played Balatro.
- You’re going to play Balatro.
- You know in your heart that you should never play Balatro.
This is probably the funniest game I’ve played in a long time. Humor is very difficult to do well in an interactive form, and this makes it look easy.
This is an exceedingly clever thing.
It says pretty much everything above. Instead of poker, or blackjack, or a slot machine, or pachinko, this uses a (2D) claw machine as its core mechanic. It’s a good deal of fun, and a good on-ramp if you haven’t experienced a roguelike deckbuilder before and want to understand what the big deal is.
Hmmm… don’t see this on mine and my Switch is using system update 19.0.1, not 11.0, so i’m confused!
Really digging Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Just finished the second major area.
Playing easy combat and regular on the puzzles, I want the exploration and puzzle solving not the fighting. The puzzles haven’t been particularly hard at all, generally solve them no problem. Had to google one, and I was doing it correctly, just apparently couldn’t tell cursive a from cursive o on a terminal spot on a word.
Heads up, accessibility is a mixed bag on this. You can tweak some things, but uggghh, the map. They went for immersive over usable. Also the aforementioned cursive issue. You can easily get readable text for all the notes, but it’s translation not the original language which is what you need for the puzzle.
This shows why I keep combat on easy. I may tend to blow the stealth sections some.
Started it yesterday and so far so good. Troy Baker does a great job channeling Harrison Ford (I’d expect nothing less). I’m only to the Vatican area so far, but it’s a lot of fun.
Stealth kind of stinks, and combat feels very clunky to the point where it’s clear the game designers prefer you avoid it.
I completely agree that the map sucks. I also find navigating through the book to find notes and objectives and stuff to be overly fiddly.
