I’m hearing from a livestreamer on Twitch (MissAnitaBump) that the LA protest in Central has been officially declared an unlawful assembly. The emergency alert signal went off on their phone while they were talking. Streets are being blocked off as I type this (they aren’t mentioning the street names.)

New Disinformation and Old Diseases feat. Anna Merlan (E328) QAA Podcast
Hundreds of people have been arrested in Los Angeles after days of protests, which are in response to aggressive immigration raids ordered by President Trump. When people took to social media to make sense of the events, they were confronted with fake, AI-generated videos of the protests and real photos that were labelled as out-of-context by AI. Thus breaking new ground in worthless, deceitful slop.

Plus, we speak to Anna Merlan at Mother Jones about her recent reporting on the RFK Jr.-connected “MAHA Institute.” That organization’s head, Leland Lehrman, has pushed extremist ideas for decades, including endorsing the conspiracist fraudulent text "Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” RFK Jr. himself is evidently embracing a genuinely anti-vax agenda in his role as Health Secretary by firing and replacing the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP).

We’ve seen the future. And the future is an AI chatbot telling you to treat your latest typhus infection with apple cider vinegar.

The streamer I was watching rode around the city on an e-bike for about two hours past curfew looking for trouble, and they couldn’t find anything, just masses of police standing around. They said, it was like the protesters just melted away. (If anything took place elsewhere, or in other parts of LA, I haven’t heard about it yet.) :woman_shrugging:

LAPD and LA Sheriffs tried to prevent two large protests from joining together in downtown and both departments ended up hitting EACH OTHER with impact munitions from across the same interesection.

Many of the LA Sheriffs didn’t have their gas masks on yet so the Sheriffs got gassed by LAPD

LAPD was on the radio crying about getting shot by rubber bullets by the sheriffs, so I’d say fair trade

Typical level of professional policing for Los Angeles. Waiting for CHP to join the fun.

Starting off with bella ciao, a song with both labor rights and ant-fascist roots, lovely.

Some more on the protests here in the metro from the Georgia Recorder.

This is inevitably going to turn in to a justification to declare martial law, right? Fucking hell.
I hope everyone there is staying as safe as possible while knowing your rights and giving them hell. :fist:t2:

Aside from MSNBC, I keep seeing news sources reporting the LAPD claim that some protesters had begun setting off fireworks and throwing bricks.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the “fireworks” were LASD’s flashbangs and the bricks were imaginary…

And the “bricks” were LASD less-lethal rounds.
