And @Millie_Fink: Thanks for finding non-paywall versions of the links I post from VF. How do you do that, so I can do it so you won’t have to, lol?
An LAPD Helicopter Claimed Cops Identified Protesters From Above and Would “Come to Your House”
I tried to find where I did that, but couldn’t, but here’s how I likely did it. Copy a piece’s URL, paste it here and press save:
If someone has already done that, their saved version will pop up right away. If not, you might have to wait a bit for the site to archive the piece.
(I’ll also note that some sites seem to have found a way around this kind of archiving site. They show non-subscribers only a paragraph or two, and that’s also all the archive site is able to archive.)
That is already a clear threat to the 1st amendment rights of free speech, free association and petition for redress of grievances. But they only count the second, so I guess it don’t matter none.
They should be careful what they value. Thanks to their efforts, it is legal to own the kind of firepower that can take out a helicopter.
Adam Parfrey, founder of Feral House publishing, was an incredibly influential man of letters, publisher, and journalist. He also had an extremely racist, social-darwinist secret agenda. He was a real jerk.
Another pot-smoking libertarian.
They put out some interesting books (a couple of which I have), but yeah, I’m not shocked by this at all…
We all live in a military state, a military state, a military state…
In that podcast they meantion a bizarre plan of publishing a book on Louis Farrakhan so they could publish book on George Lincoln Rockwell founder of the American Nazi Party.
Can’t say I’m shocked by that…
It’s certainly possible; we’ve seen people exposing hackable flaws in election mechanisms for years now. It’s definitely plausible; considering the personalities involved, I can fully believe they’d do it in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it.
The problem is, how do we prove it, at least enough to compel the notably, um, risk-averse congresscritters to start an investigation and get the gears of justice moving?
I’m not trying to be a doomer here. I’m asking out of a genuine desire to get whatever the truth is out in the open, because it needs to happen. Is there a way around whatever forensic obfuscation Palantir and its accomplices created, or any traces left in the system that can be exposed? Or is a deep dive into emails and other communications between involved parties the key to this? I think most of us here can buy into the concept that the election was stolen, at least enough to want a thorough investigation, but most of the rest of the country will need to be convinced before corrective action can take place… and it’s likely to be a tough thing to sell.
If this is true, and I very much fear that it is, we not only need to take steps to make sure it can NEVER happen again, we need to ensure that the consequences for their actions are so severe that even the idea of subverting the vote will be unthinkable for at least a century. Treason on this scale has traditionally carried a hefty penalty…
Even my empathy has its limits.
I prefer a different kind of a PEZ dispenser.
And also, to what end?
You’re exactly right that the current Congress is not set up to do anything about it, even if there is definitive proof. None of the Republicans and not even all of the Democrats are wired to accept data, no matter how solid. Data doesn’t work on them. Facts don’t work on them.
Then there is the legal issue. As far as the law goes, after Dec. 6, 2024, no amount of cheating legally matters. The only legal path forward is impeachment, and they are nowhere near close for that. Even when it comes to fixing the insecurities that are exposed, the same cheaters are going to just sit there taking notes like they did in 2020, looking for the next layer of insecurity. Let’s be honest - if this is true, then it was enabled by their efforts to overturn the election in 2020 and finding all the cracks in the system.
If the administration continues breaking down our system in the near term, stopping them isn’t going to go through Congress or the courts. It’s going to be the people, like the tens of millions who showed out yesterday, who overcome it.
It’s plausible they’d want to. Based on the article, the mechanism they’re proposing seems to be missing a few steps:
If Eaton pushed an update to those UPS units, it could have gained root-level access to the host tabulation environment—without ever modifying certified election software.
Are they proposing that the UPS hacked the voting machine via the power cable? Or is there a step I’m missing?
I’m so skeptical of this narrative. Just because it has recently been such a powerful type of disinformation.
If there is any truth to it I sure hope there is amazing evidence to support it and enough legal backbone in the country to prosecute.
UPS usually have some sort of data connection so they can tell the computer to shut down gracefully.
