A Mennonite and a Buddhist monk, on their cell phones. Gave me a giggle.
Mennonites use cell phones? TIL.
On the other hand, my sister knew a guy who designed web sites for the Amish. No joke. The Amish have no problems with modern technology existing, as long as itās other people using it and not them.
They probably donāt have any games on them. Mennonites are down with technology just not excessive use of it such that it takes away your focus on living a godly (holy? meh whatever the word is) life.
Nah, donāt lie. Sheās playing Candy Crush and you know it.
From the ad in the background, thatās in Salt Lake City. Are you sure thatās a Mennonite and not a Mormon? Some LDS factions dress as simply and conservatively as Mennonites do.
Good question. I havenāt seen the skull cap with long ties-that-are-not-tied hanging down in front (white if youāre single, black if youāre married) on Mormon women, but that doesnāt mean they donāt do it that way too.
Good catch. I didnāt spot that; I hadnāt even heard of that.
Woah. You know your Mennonites! Impressive.
Itās a regional thing. There were so many of them in NW Indiana when I was living there.
Exactly. And Illinois too. Plus, my cousin married a woman who grew up with Mennonites and I visit them often in Lancaster, PA, so Iāve spent quite a bit of time around both that group and the Amish too.
Fun fact: they like to come to Chicago to go to the Museum of Science and Industry. Iāve started seeing them at other museums, like the Art Institute, but the MSI is destination central for Amish/Mennonite families. My guess is that the fact they can take a train from Indiana and get off a few blocks from the museum is one reason why. But they probably also enjoy learning about all the science and technology now available.
Is it the Mennonites where only the women drive? Or was that some offshoot of the backwoods I grew up in?
And now since this is in my head, Iāll share
Thank you, Weird Al is always appreciated!
(very occasionally I happen to take a look at Minecraft developmentā¦ this just happens to show up this time around, and what the heck, thatās pretty random, and silly. )
Iāve never heard of that before, FWIW. What ābackwoodsā did you grow up in?
NW Montana. We had Amish and Mennonites, but this was after Iād left and was back on a visit.
Every time Iāve gone to Cedar Point, thereās been a large group of Mennonites there.
In case you havenāt looked at TOS in a while, this is the BEST parody Iāve seen in a long long time.
