Happy Ramones-aversary for those who celebrate it!

51th anniversary of their first public appearance
No band embodied the fun and grit of NYC better than the Ramones.
On March 30, 1974, the Ramones put on their very first show for 30 friends in a small studio on East 20th Street.

And maybe, just maybe, that’s why the chorus of track 3, side 1, of the first Clash album keeps running around my head.

I honestly don’t know what to make of that.

I get his newsletter… he has some thoughtful takes on culture in general that I’m not sure I agree with 100%. But they’re worth considering, often times.

I suspect that he’s ignoring the gender angle on why REM and the Pixies are still frequently discussed as influential, but 10,000 maniacs not so much… I’m guessing more women were into the later and more men the former two. Men’s taste are STILL taken more seriously than women’s. I don’t think that REM was any less earnest than 10,000 Maniacs.
