@PatRx2 mentioned it above.
I saw Sam
for the first time since forever on the other place yesterday so I said hi. In his hi back, he said
I miss you mutants, should hang out on bbs more often
Sounds like heās (understandably) busy, but has anyone invited him here? There wouldnāt be any politics involved with inviting him, right?
I know Rob had joined (briefly) so I assumed the Other staff was aware but Sam is from Discourse. He was pretty active with us for a while but it was before the lounge was a big thing IIRC.
I can only speak for myself, but Iām good with inviting him.
Iām fine with it too. Good idea, I think.
I doubt thereās any stress about that at all. Some things changed at BB, we adapted to make sure weāre still OK even with the change, it was a giant disturbance in the force at the time but now I think most everybody is getting most of what they wanted.
I doubt Rob kept anything to himself (and I donāt think he had reason to), so like you said itās no secret. Also, what we did is completely in line with theories of community Cory himself used in Walkaway.
so, 24hrs later its all āayesā and no ānays.ā I linked him, explaining that this is like the new lounge.
I just spotted Modus in the comments on an AV Club article. Has he been invited already, or should I see if Kinja will let me shoot them a PM invitation?
Edited to add: yeah, not seeing an easy way to do that yet, but I donāt use Kinja all that much and itās tricksy at best. Maybe itās because I use a burner account? Kinjaā¦
Ah, goos olā MO.
Kinja doesnt do private messaginf, like, at all. So no worries, just shoot an invite at 'em (by replying to their latest comment, natch)
Isnāt that going to put us out there for everyone to see? (Well, maybe not everyone, 'cuz Iām in the grays, but still.) Thereās been some pretty strong troll activity on the Gizmodo site network lately. I do want to invite Modus but I donāt want to invite trolls along with him.
Yup. Jormi/loaf has really done a number on the regulars there.
Thatās exactly who I meant. Iāve been flagging them like mad over there, but the minute one username goes down, another username pops up. Iād imagine it would be harder for them to spoof user accounts here, but I still donāt want that person and their trash talk anywhere near the CafĆ©.
If any Kinja ninjas have ideas on how to invite MO, Iām all ears. Or if you think itās worth the risk to post the URL, Iāll go ahead and do it.
On the board tell him to check his messages at bb and pm him there.
Ooooooh, thatās brilliantā¦ and done! Thank you!
Wait, I thought he was banned at BB?
I think it was short-term. I didnāt see a ban notice when I called up his account.
Edited to add: but come to think of it, I thought he was banned for a long time. Maybe some mod (oren) adjusted it later?
He came back briefly. The ban is over.
Thereās already one public post with our URL over at the Other Place.
True, but the Gizmodo websites reach a lot more people. And thereās been a real jerk over there whoās been faking posts by regular users to start flame wars between them, when theyāre not posting noxious bullshit on their own. I do not want that person showing up here. So I was trying to avoid giving an open invitation to everybody-- just to Modus.
I find stuff like that as fascinating as it is repulsive, because I know from some extending-the-universe fiction Iāve written (a riff on Lovecraft was one) that itās work to imitate someoneās voice. Work that could instead be going into something which brings true joy instead of just evil glee. Yāknow?
@gadgetgirl: Agreed. I really donāt understand why they went to so much effort to do something so incredibly stupid. (Especially since they werenāt very good at it. Each attempt followed the same pattern. But there were a ton of attempts.)
In better news, Modus has seen my post:
