I don’t think you were part of the reason we left or were kicked. I think that happened while you were sysadmin but before you became moderator. I only ever had a problem with one person over there, and you ain’t him. As you may note, I do still participate over there, just less than I used to, and I share much less personal info there than I once did.
I’m glad you’re here. Several times I’ve wished that communicating there with you as you, rather than as The Moderator, was an option. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but even those of us who still participate over there do it a little more, shall we say, carefully? than we used to in the before times. Things have somewhat quieted down here since then, but I’m sure you’ll see some names you recognize.
Again, welcome, and I hope we have many interesting discussions!

Thanks! I completely get it; I’ve often felt the same way - That I’d love to just “be me” and not think about my “role” in a discussion. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like someone’s putting words in my mouth. It’s more like the “Hrm, I should probably steer clear of this discussion” type of thinking.
I have to say, it’s nice seeing many faces over here I haven’t seen in some time.

I’m honestly glad you’re here, but it would be lying by omission to not point out your part in why I haven’t been to BB in the past 2.5 years. You suspended me for posting a picture of Mr Burns saying “excellent.” It must have received a lot of flags. I asked myself, if something that basic can be so wildly misinterpreted what am I even doing there?

So the whole point of being here is to not drag stuff from “over there” over here, and I’m fully prepared to believe the two may be inseparable and I therefore cannot remain here (because as a guest I am not going to cause a ruckus.)
That being said the one thing I will say unequivocally is that your timeout “over there” had literally nothing to do with some gif, and if you really do believe that and would like more clarity on that subject, let’s do so in PMs here (or there!) - I try to be an open book, but I do not want to derail anything here with those sorts of discussions. I hope that makes sense.

I say that you are welcome here; this site was created after the Saint Elsewhere “Massacre” so that we could still talk to our favorite BB members even if something untoward should ever happen to the main site.

Heh. That’s been the reason why I haven’t been here in such a long while. So many extremely long threads, so few new ones, and it always made me feel itchy and ill-informed to pipe up in a thread I hadn’t completely read first. But as I age, I shed more give-a-shits with every passing day.

I know I tend to avoid starting new threads because I hate trying to come up with a title for 'em. 
But I don’t think there’s many threads here that are extremely dependent on thread history, it’s mostly just categorization.

Yeah, I know… I eventually figured that out. But I liked the old emphasis on using the actual categories for categorization (like “Joy,” for instance, the category we’re in now), and threads for more specificity, like what we’re talking about today. I mean, we have 41 threads that have received comment in the last fortnight, in eight categories (although mostly in just four: Joy, Politics, News, and Culture). I’ve thought that maybe there should be more “channels,” as it were, and fewer all-encompassing “shows.” More categories, more threads with a bit more specificity. I dunno, that would certainly be possible; nobody’s stopping me from making all the hyperspecific threads I want. But people here just seem to like adding on to existing conversations rather than starting new ones. Which, y’know, totally fine, that’s just the way everyone goes here. But I think it does contribute to a bit of insularity. Anyway, whatever. I tried to make this point years ago; I have no new insights or solutions.

I’m toying with a bit of a hybrid approach. I’m trying to create more new threads, and then link them to existing threads where appropriate. It’s tricky, though. Some threads, like the Twitter one, seem more well-suited as a catch-all for some topics that have a shared history in general. I’m about to post about more layoffs, for example. I’m not sure that there’s more discussion to be had about that, but I think it adds to the existing one nicely. It’s always a judgement call, obviously. I think it could be useful for certain categories to have threads that auto-expire as well, but I don’t think that would fit for all cases.

Also I’d throw a “mostly” in front of the words ‘drama free’; every rare blue moon or so there’s some internal friction or the occasional head-butting… but that’s just par for the course when dealing with others.
For the most part, Elsewhere does really well keeping a chill vibe.
