Good mornin’ edition!
My emus hit the three month mark last night and are starting to take their first steps into being field birds. The one up front is a real charmer who begs for neck scritches any chance he(?) gets.
OMG! Such cute murder-birbs!
Will they stay friendly and affectionate, or do they turn more aggressive as they mature?
Hit and miss, from what I read. They can be murderous as adults, or stay friendly. The best odds are with lots of handling straight out of the shell. The front one sat on the couch with us for the first three days of its life and is definitely the most affectionate. The other two were hatched by someone else and didn’t get handled as much, and the difference is very noticeable. I’ve got some turkeys that are aggressive and we just kind of accept it as a part of life. But as these grow, any sign of aggression means they will no longer be part of our breeding program. I can take an occasional turkey mauling but not the velociraptor treatment!
The nice lady at Useless Farm said that Karen, their adult female emu who continually attacks her, had lived at a petting zoo.
I can see how that could make anyone mean, esp a dinosaur.
My wife is a huge Karen fan. But she’s fun to watch from a distance!
…except when poor Amanda hasta go to the hospital!
Our daughter works at a Cat Cafe, their big thing is yoga with the cats.
Salmiaki-kun is molting something fierce! He avoids us because he doesn’t like to be plucked or groomed, though he likes the end result.
I’ll be giving him another grooming tonight. Also, he needs a mani-pedi. He hates that. I’ll try to get photos.
My wife and I both fell asleep the other day after a long walk.
I was on the couch she was in the bed, when I got up this is what I found, both of them sound asleep.
That’s their on the road litter box with a night light.
She spends the day in the upper bunk looking out the window. Just outside that window behind her is a huge bush with some birds nests that she can see.
He does have such a delightfully grumpy look in these pictures. He’s an absolutely gorgeous bun!
hiding bun edition!
Thank goodness we’re at our happy place where we can wander off and forget about the news.
We were biking on a paved trail when we saw this guy. We rode about a tenth of a mile past to a trail and then doubled back on foot along a lake to get a better look.
As we’re tiptoing back it popped out to say hi.
This is a very cheap vacation but better than any fancy resort.
It poked it’s head out as we were trying to sneak up.
He’s thinking… “dude, what do these weirdos want???”
But seriously, what a lovely shot! Nice work!
Really nice! But what kind of animal is that? The first two photos made me think “deer,” but then I saw all the spots in the last photo. And they’re not deer fawn spots.
It’s an adult deer, the spots are from the sun.
The sun is setting over my shoulder so the deer is mostly in shadows except where the leaves let the sun peak through.
