The mouse count for the week is a tie at one dead mouse and one not-yet-dead mouse. Weā€™re down from a few weeks ago when there were multiple unfortunate mice every day, some of them disemboweled on the carpet.

Iā€™ll spare you and not post dead mouse photos, so here is George, who is not responsible for any mice in the house. He is a good boy.

To be fair, it IS their job, evolutionarily speaking!

Oh for sure, I donā€™t yell or punish them (though I did let out an audible EEP when I saw), but I do take away their toys, when those toys are mice or birds in my house. They can do what they want outside.

At the same time, I never bring them mice, so they probably think Iā€™m woefully incompetent.

Our first cat, Kugel, used to play with mice till they ran off and died, then started to smell. RIP, Kugel. And I guess the mice too.

That didnā€™t stop one of my kitties. Mice and the back half of bunnies, always the back half. For all the hassle the jays would give him he never left birds. According to our neighbors across the street he never attacked the birds they fed. So if he was hunting them he was good at hiding the bodies.

I see mostly mice and bunnies, including one very lucky little bun who we caught and released uninjured on Easter. The current kitty cohort isnā€™t so big on birds, but other kitties who have gone before were more into them. I once had to clean up a dead mourning dove, and one time, I had to usher a very much alive songbird out of the house. That took hours because the cats were ā€œhelpingā€.

We have plenty of asshole jays but none seem to have been caught. When we moved in, there were lots of squirrels, but they only hung around until the cats moved in, I havenā€™t seen one in years.

Ernie is growing into a very pretty dude with poor boundaries and a sense of entitlement. As my friend Jimmy used to say, at least heā€™s pretty.

@noahdjango, I had no ideas rabbits had such ample tushes. Bunny Got Back. (sorry)

I love that theyā€™re friendsā€¦

[ETA] I wonder if theyā€™ve bonded over their common antipathy to kitties! :smile_cat:

my thought is that Cop Dog is a shepherd, and so she understands on a fundamental level that any animal I may have is under her care.
but why Lester understands this is beyond me. I imagine his former home had dogs in it, but it may just be a mutual admiration.

Itā€™s a fuzzies versus bald monkey conspiracy thing Iā€™m sure.
