We finally got biopsy results back for Gretta – and she is almost certainly cancer-free!

…which confused four vets and an oncologist, who all looked at the x-ray and said “that’s osteosarcoma.” The oncologist was kind of freaked out when the result was negative, so they sent it to a second oncologist. Who also confirmed: not cancer.

Apparently she had a fracture sometime in her history which didn’t heal right, and she broke it again recently and it was an inflamed, splintery mess. The vet said if they’d done a bone biopsy first, she still probably would have recommended amputation instead of an attempt to repair it which would probably have Gretta in a cast for six months without any surety she could walk on it after that anyway. So she got to skip over all of that.

She’s getting used to the tripod life. A little unsure on slippery parts of the wood floor (we have rugs taped down where we can), but she can move around at speed and has no trouble with stairs, climbing onto chairs, etc.

Cats pant when hot! Had no idea.

Yep, they also sweat through their toe-beans like dogs.

Amazing!

That’s a great word for it! Much better than “pink puddy paw pads” (which I got from my father). I gotta tell my wife.

I got it from CuteOverload.com, which no longer exists, back in the early part of the century.

A few Yami highlights from the last two weeks:

Picture day is also bath day, which is why Ushi is looking so frizzy.
It may not show super well in this picture, but they are getting along a lot better. They’ve even been playing a bit, which is pretty remarkable given the ten year age difference.

That’s a hair tie, isn’t it? My kids had the same one!

I think I read your new pup comes that way, nude with fuzzy slippers?

I’ve heard that Sphinx cats (hairless) have to be bathed regularly to remove oil buildup on their skin. They are really cute, especially with all the winkles.

Aw Yami! Love your little tongue slip. And Ushi, so pretty (even with after-bath frizz)!:heart_eyes:

I’m loving the 1980s sibling photo vibe of the last one, it’s perfect. From the legwarmer silhouette to the big hair, to the staging… chef kiss.

Sugarplum Update: She’s been sleeping with me, whether it’s at night or if I nap; otherwise, doesn’t cuddle. And today, I found her in my bed with me not in it!

It could be. The subscription box it came out of called it a party collar, I believe.

Yami is a hairless Chinese Crested, so she carries the hairless gene. She’s from a litter of 9(!) that had a mix of fully coated (Powder Puff) and hairless pups. There’s a surprising amount of variance among hairelessness, even within the same litter. She’s actually got quite a bit more hair than our previous one, Lola. She has the leg warmers, the fuzzy tail, and the mullet. She also has some general fuzz on her back and maybe in a few other places, but her belly is essentially bare. My wife shaves her a bit when she grooms her, but what you see is pretty much how she is.
Acne and sunburns are among the issues you have with hairless dogs that you don’t have with other varieties.

He is a beautiful boy.

I’m sure more could be done in PhotoShop, but here’s what happens when I put it through the 1985 preset in LightRoom:

Lady was snoring so hard, she broke my concentration. And I was wearing noise-cancelling headphones too.

Our cat, Lyta, sometimes makes audible breathing sounds when she’s awake. When asleep she can sometimes wake the dead. And at night she sleeps on a chest at the foot of the bed.
