The Pets Thread

Mr. Stud has held on longer than I had anticipated, but we’re nearing the end, I think. He refused food today, but he did drink some water.

He has been really adamant about going outside, even though he hasn’t been out in weeks (most of that was really cold, though). Part of it is that he wants to shit outside, like he always has. Part of it is spending some time in the sunshine. But, I think another part is his instinct to look for a solitary place for his final departure. It might be selfish, but I’m not going to let him do that. He gets lost in the house sometimes, and the thought of him lost and cold makes me even more sad than the knowledge that these are his final days.

Here he is, today, having a sunshine rest.

Poor ol’ Buddy wants to sleep outside, but I have work to do. I moved the ring doorbell to a spot where I can watch him. Actually, he keeps moving from one side of the AC unit to the other, so I have to keep going outside to move the camera. It’s better than trapping him somewhere inside, for my own convenience.

My efficiency today is dismal. When he goes, though, it won’t be any comfort that some flyer had a fast turnaround. But, it will comfort me to know he got to enjoy time outside in the sunshine, his final days.

It’s 66 degrees, so pretty nice!

Mr. Stud left the world yesterday. He got two sunshiny spring days before leaving, and now he is buried under the apple tree with the kitties who have gone before. He was an excellent good boy.

So sorry. But know you gave him the best possible life, especially in his last days. And thank you for sharing a tiny bit of his and your goodness here.

Sorry to hear this. Take care.

I managed to get a audio recording of Lyta’s raucous meowing while carrying a ball around in her mouth. I added a picture and made a video for YouTube. She can do this for 20 minutes straight.

Lyta made me laugh again. Background: Sona is a nibbler who eats bits all day, while Lyta is a gobbler who will hoover everything in sight. The other day I put a little bowl of food in the TV room for Sona. While she was eating, I tried to keep an eye on Lyta. She was laying meatloaf style in the living room, sort of looking down the hall to the tv room. I did some kitchen chores, then looked again. She was closer, in the same position and orientation. Next time I looked she was right outside the doorway, in the exact same position.

It was if she had transported herself instantly from one spot to the other, like in some sf or horror film. Reminds me of

We here at Chez Gothro South call it “teleprotting”.

I’m not getting that one.

It’s our slang version of “teleporting”; we switch around the “r” and the “o”.

SMH!

My favorite is to say “I’m writing some pottery.”

Sylvia has to go to the vet, and we had an appointment today. When I tried to put her in the carrier, she freaked the fuck out, bad.

She screamed like I was hurting her, and my hands and face are scratched up (really just one puncture wound on my face, not too bad) and she is hiding. I really pissed her off, but she’s obviously not feeling well, and the vet is how she gets better.

I have another appointment for tomorrow morning, when someone will be around to help with the carrier.

I feel like a masher, and she probably hates me right now. If I could magically say any one thing to cats, that they would understand, is that I’m doing this to help!

I should try to take more pictures of Sylvia, but she doesn’t really like to hang out and interact. She’s a crabby old lady, which I will be myself one day, so I don’t want that to sound like an insult, just descriptive.

Some cats are just crabby old ladies even when young (or male cough Dyson cough).

I mean, if I felt like shit and some huge creature tried to stuff me in a box, I’d be pissy too. I suspect that she will need some teeth removed, they are probably causing pain, and I super-relate to that. Good thing I’m not a cat, though, and I didn’t try to scratch or bite my dentist. That would have been quite awkward.

I hope she gets better soon!

Sylvia is still camera shy, but she’s scheduled for a dental surgery on Monday, and is likely to lose some teeth, possibly all the teeth. BUT, that should take care of her pain, and I’m glad to feed her soft foods for as long as she wants to eat.

Meanwhile Ernie remains a weird guy. He slept like this for at least 45 minutes.

Ooh ooh, I got one of Miss Sylvia
